10/21/18 - CKC October/ Projects #3 and #4

Hi there!
2 more projects from my Counterfeit Challenge Blog October kit
(projects #3 and #4)

My first page is a 12x12 Traditional Layout

"Void"
Journaling: "Void: a Star Wars themed Virtual Reality experience. David really wanted to try it! I was afraid to try it because I'm not any good at video games but it was a lot of fun!"

This is part of my 4 page spread covering our visit to Vegas this past July; this is page 3 of 4.

My favorite things about this layout:
1) the color scheme...
2) the cluster of embellishments around the bottom photo
3) the inclusion of our bracelets... I'm trying to remember to save and include ephemera in my layouts more often

.
.
.
.

My second project is a 2-page Travelers Notebook layout for my Pet Themed album.

"Hello Happy"
Journaling: "Hamlet enjoying a yummy apple. Nobody tell him what usually happens to pigs who get whole apples. 03.31.17"

I'm also entering this layout into the "Dotty About Dots" Challenge  over at The Studio Challenge blog seeing as both my PPs have dots on them!

All of the paper pieces on the TN Spread are scraps, including the "Hello Happy" which is from a cut-apart paper that I had already cut into.
That sticker border under the photo is a scrap also.
In my "Void" layout you will see a green butterfly and a circle word sticker: "cherish" (and the other half of the border sticker).
Those came from the same sticker sheet that I got the border sticker from...and it is an old sticker sheet that I bought in May 2016.
So glad I included it in my kit this month!

For having such a shaky start to this month, I feel like I'm accomplishing a lot w/ my kit!

09/25/28 - CKC September / Project #6

This is my 6th and final project for the September Edition of the Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog.
I will be going on vacation soon and will not have time to scrap any more for this challenge (if any).
I made 7 last month so w/ one week to spare before the end, I feel like I did pretty good creating 6 layouts this month!

This is a 2 pager in my "Food Themed" Travelers Notebook.
It contains lots of journaling!

"Rolled Ice Cream"

"July 29th, 2018 -
David and I tried rolled ice cream for the first time... and I loved it!
This one is "The Chocolate Monster": Chocolate Cake, Nutella, and Kit Kat - Number 9 on the menu at "The Roll Ice Cream" in Huntington Beach.
I loved the flavor and the texture; the fact that you could chew it a bit before it actually started to melt.
I wasn't a fan of the price though: $7.99!*
IDK if that's the going price or if it's because it's by the beach but yikes!
Anyway, something I would definitely have again, just not very often.

What Is Rolled Ice Cream?

Choose your ice cream and add-ins.  The liquid ice cream is added to an anti-griddle that chills anything  that touches it to (-)4 degrees farenheit. The toppings are then mashed in and just as it all begins to freeze, it's spread into thin layer which is then rolled up and added to a cup. More toppings can be added on top.
Originated in Thailand."

The description of how rolled ice cream is made was paraphrased from an online article; shortened/re-phrased in a few places to help make it fit in my condensed space.

*TBF - the price includes unlimited toppings.
But you wouldn't be able to tell by mine because I kept my toppings minimal...
as a person who suffers from anxiety, when I have too many choices I panic and wind up choosing...nothing, LOL

Coincidentally my very first counterfeit challenge layout for this month included a photo of this ice cream also:

As much as I loved this layout, I felt like I wanted to explain more of what exactly rolled ice cream was, especially after I had a lot of inquiries.
So, I printed another copy of the photo, yes I scrapped the same photo twice, and added a few bits and pieces from my kit, some doodling, and a whole lot of journaling!

BTW - if you recall I was contemplating replacing the "mangled" sticker on my 12x12 layout...
I wound up doing it... it just bugged me WAY too much!
The rest of the stickers will be used so it's not exactly like I wasted money.
Besides, my sanity is priceless, LOL

09/21/18 - CKC September / Project #5

Hello,
Just dropping by to share my latest:
a page I made w/ my September "Counterfeit Kit Challenge" blog kit.

Before I do, some background...
I have Food-Themed Traveler's Notebook (no big surprise there, right?! LOL)
And it's been a while since I created anything in it.
I pulled it out a couple of nights ago to add to it and as I flipped through previously completed pages I was not liking what I saw.
Oh, I still loved the pages I created! But what I didn't like was the blank pages that proceeded/followed them. For the most part I create 1 page layouts in my journals.
I rarely fill in the other side unless the theme (w/in the theme) corresponds well w/ the other page.
And generally I'm perfectly okay w/ the look of it.

But this time,  flipping through my journal, I felt like the blank page made the book look empty, even...ugly.
So, using my counterfeit kit, I spruced up the other side.

Take a look:

Before

After

All of the items on the left-hand side are from my kit and since it is the only page I created this go-round it still counts for the counterfeit challenge.
Also because it references a "Fall-Themed" food it counts for their current challenge:
- "Do a project about Fall -Anything Fall related - leaves, apples, cold weather and so on"

BTW the "Forever Autumn " was 2 separate stickers.
The word "Friends" proceeded "Forever" but since I don't have any friends, I cut it off, LOL
And since I was eating a Pumpkin Spice dessert in March what I changed the phrase into was perfect!
Oh, and just a reminder of my kit name, in case you forgot: "You Had Me at Pumpkin Spice"! ::wink::

TFSB!
And feel free to let me know if you've ever done something similar...
(Added to an old layout).

08/08/18 - CKC August/Projects #1 and #2

Good Morning to you!

Just stopping by to show off a couple of layouts I created w/ my August Counterfeit Challenge Kit.
As per the rules, everything on both is from my kit and only my kit:

-First up:

Midori Travelers Notebook
2 page spread

"Espana"
Journaling:
"July 1st, 2018
This is how my husband notifies me that, "Spain is winning!"

W/ a Snap Chat-Dog-Filtered-wrapped-in-a-Spain-souvenir photo.
I was born in Spain so we cheer for both the USA and Spain.

Spain did not win the World Cup"

My husband sent me this silly photo and I knew I just had to scrap it for the "Fly Your Flag" challenge at Scrapbook.com...
Basically it's a challenge for showing off your National Pride.
I very rarely have a reason to scrap Spain so I enjoyed this.
Funny thing... 2 years ago we went to Spain and I have like a bazillion photos...but only like 2 of them are scrapped, LOL (Because there are a bazillion of them!)

Design Details:
I used 2 PL Cards on this:
1. As a journaling spot
The 2nd I punched 1 circle and a couple of half-circles out of and used them as embellishments (the Yellow Patterned circles)

The PL cards are super old, part of the Becky Higgins "Kraft" Project Life Kit.

.
.

2nd Layout
12x12 Traditional
W/ Non-traditional Colors for the theme: Fourth of July
Heads up my scanner is (always) dirty so the "ink" smudges you may see here and there on this layout are not intentional, LOL
Seriously IDK what's up w/ my scanner!

"The 4th, 2018"
Journaling
TOP:
"This was the first 4th we didn't see fireworks. David had to be at work at 3AM so he went to bed early and Madi and I didn't want to watch the neighborhood fireworks w/out him"

MIDDLE:
"06.30.18 - Early 4th w/ the neighbors. David made chocolate brownies and lemon cupcakes w/ strawberry frosting."

BOTTOM:
(Menu)
"-Corn on the Cob                   -Steak
-Salmon & Veggie Kabobs        -Meatless Burgers
July 4th, 2018"

Finished off my Pink Enamel Dots on this - a bittersweet moment for me.
Also the polka dot PP is from an old SMASH book; remember those?!

I'm so happy that CKC asked me to Guest Design because I forgot just how much fun it is to create layouts w/ only a "handful" of supplies! Especially when some of the supplies are ancient... forces you to finally use them!

As a reminder of how it all works:

I would love if you played along!

05/21/18 - Weekend Craftiness

Hi there, hey there!
As I mentioned in my last post I haven't had a lot of time to scrap.
And just recently I realized feel like some of what I have done this year was done in haste which takes the fun out of it, and has me looking back on those layouts w/ a bit of  a "meh" feeling... like I could have done so much better.

It has me thinking back to my OLW(s) -
Less/More

I'm doing "More" but loving it "Less", and I need it to be the other way around.
So I made a vow to myself that I will make time for scrapping but if I absolutely have no time that I will accept it and wait instead of half-assing my spreads.
Oh, and  I may even go back and tweak those I've done a bit to make myself feel better about them.

I still have more than half-a-year to put that practice in place so here's to looking forward to a "fresh-start"!

.
.
.
.
.
.
I did make some time for scrapping this weekend and I enjoyed the process and the results very much!
Despite one of the layouts being about a not-so-happy subject:

"Hello Beautiful"
2 page
Travelers Notebook Spread
For my Food Themed Midori Travelers Notebook

Journaling:
"South of the Border Guacamole Charburger from The Habit Hamburger Grill
Fresh, seasoned Charburger topped with a crisp tostada shell, guacamole, pico de gallo, melted cheese, and ancho chile lime crema. Served on a toasted bun with crisp, shredded lettuce, tomato and pickles"

 "Life's Ruff Ruff"
Traditional
12x12 layout

Journaling:
"4.12.18 - National Pet Day. Also the day we found out Spotty has Spinal Arthritis. His back legs no longer work and it's irreversible. All we can do is try our best to keep him comfortable and give him meds to help w/ his pain. It makes me sad."

05/07/18 - National Scrapbook Day/Weekend Projects

How was your National Scrapbooking Day?
Hopefully productive!

Mine was,  but not scrappy-wise, LOL

My son came down from where he now lives, which is about an hour away, to go to the movies w/ my husband and then take him, and I out for my Early Mother's Day Lunch.
W/ that and real life responsibilities, including a dog who has recently become "handicapped", (about a month ago he lost use of his back legs and he needs constant supervision and assistance) I didn't have a whole lot time to myself to scrap.
But no worries...
I still got a few layouts done, though it took 3 days: Friday. Saturday, and Sunday.

Here they are in order of when I scrapped them..
And coincidentally they are all food related; it seriously was just a coincidence!

 FRIDAY -

"Say Cheesecake"

Documenting a "tasty" piece of Pumpkin Cheesecake I had at the "Lazy Dog" Restaurant in March.
This is a page in my Food Themed Travelers Notebook.

The Alphas and the Sunday Fun-Day stamp came from the Kelly Purkey shop:
and the PPs and "eating" sticker came from her March Traveler's Notebook Kit.
I just signed up as a subscriber to her kits and this was my first:  March TN Kit/Tina's Currents

The "Tasty" stamp is from Citrus Twist and is one of my favorite stamp sets, second only to the "Fri-Yay" stamp set I mentioned above.
Though I am not a subscriber.

SATURDAY -

"Copy Cat Cookies"

This was actually created on NSD and was inspired by the following Studio Calico Challenge:
Mix It Up Challenge  - which is still open until May 13th

The challenge is to use a Documenter Card (AKA their version of a Project Life Card) on a non-pocket page layout.
I used 2: the "Good Stuff" journaling card and the Pink Squiggly card from which I also punched out the half-circle embellishment.
I am subscriber of their Documenter Kit (AKA their version of a Project Life Kit) also.

Here's the journaling:
"Have you heard of the Levain Cookie?
It is a 'World Famous' 6oz chocolate chip walnut cookie at the Levain Bakery in New York. They are described as 'enormous, crunchy on the outside and soft and ooey gooey on the inside'. People wait in long lines to get their hands on one; apparently it's worth it!
David found a copy cat recipe and they are now, officially, my FAVORITE cookie! If these are anywhere near as good as the originals, I would definitely agree that they are worth standing in line for! Someday I hope to try the real thing. BTW - David created a special Pumpkin Spice version for me."

SUNDAY -

"Oh, Yeah!"

Another Page in my Food Themed Traveler's Notebook.
Also another Challenge inspired by Studio Calico, also involving a Documenter Card, although this time
it's to use a Documenter Card on a Traveler's Notebook layout: Doc to TN Challenge
This one is also still open until May 13th.

The "delicious" is from the same Citrus Twist stamp I mentioned above; I have already gotten a lot of us out of the set and know I will continue to do so!

Though I didn't get to create a lot I am happy w/ all that I did create and to me, that's the most important thing: quality over quantity!

TFSB!

02/20/18 - "Sweet 'N Low" / -Feb '18 CKC-

Sometimes I feel like I scrap the weirdest things... but I realize that these "weird things" are parts of the story of my life.

Here's an example; my latest BOM layout.
5 x 8 Travelers Journal/Jot Journal Page
Using nothing but my February Counterfeit Kit Blog Challenge kit.
Which includes a stamp I bought a few years ago and never used; the half doily stamp.

"Sweet 'N Low"

Journaling:
"Most people find money in their pocket...I find Sweet 'N Low.
-first photo of Feb 2018
2.2.18"

I use a lot of Sweet N Low so whenever I go somewhere where it's offered, I usually pocket a few packets, which is why I usually, randomly, find a few in my pocket.

Make sure to tell YOUR story... no matter how "weird"!

02/09/18- February CKC Layouts #1 and #2

Helloooooo!
In case you were wondering... Yes, I have been creating w/ my February counterfeit kit inspired by the Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog.
So far I have created 2 layouts.
I would like to create at least 4 to match last months CKC project number...so I'm half-way there!
A 5th project (at the very least) would make me extra happy!
It's still early enough in the month that I think I can do it!

For now let's look at projects #1 and #2.

First here's a reminder of my kit:

Project #1. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

 5x8 Travelers Journal/Jot Journal Page
For my BOM (Book of Me)
"Enjoy Beer"

Journaling:
"I've never been a fan of beer but lately I've been enjoying it and drinking it more regularly. My favorites are any flavor by Redds, Angry Orchard, and some of the various sour varieties.
27 Jan 2018"

Project #2. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

2-Page Midori Travelers Notebook Spread
(each page is 4.5 x 8.5)
For my Pet Album
"Nap Pals"

Besides using my kit in general, I am happy to say I used 3 of the scraps I included in the kit.

I had fun making both layouts but working w/ limited amounts of items is DEFINITELY a challenge!
Every so often I  would think that I had an item that would "look perfect on this page" and want to go and grab it and then remember...NOPE! LOL!

But it's okay because I am very happy w/ both layouts!
And I hope I will have more to share very soon!

02/02/18 - "Book of Me" -AKA- Another New Project

It's not Thursday, but I'm going to Throw It Back for a moment.
Back to my first layout of 2018
Created on January 1st, 2018!
Dimensions = 5x8

"Congrats to Me - 2017 Reading Challenge"
Journaling:
"Surpassed my 2017 Reading goal of 12 books by 10!
12.31.17"

This documents me completing my 2017 Reading Challenge!
This is also my first layout/page in my "Book of Me" Journal.

I was gifted a Jot Journal from a friend as part of a Christmas Gift.
I've never heard of a Jot Journal before but it is similar to a Travelers Notebook/Midori Travelers Notebook.
This particular journal has pages that are approximately 5x8.
I decided to turn this journal into a "Book of Me"
I plan on just scrapping random photos/stories about me...not necessarily in chronological order.

Here are 2 more layouts I've created:

 "NOPE"
Journaling:
"In case your wondering...
Nope, "Not Today"...or any other day actually.
My new T-Shirt from Hot Topic.
You put a cat and/or a sarcastic saying on it and I'll buy it, LOL"
- July 30th 2017

"Cat Backpack"
Journaling:
"Bought this cute backpack. TBH, I did have a, "I'm 41 yrs old I shouldn't be carrying a cat backpack" moment but my daughter convinced me that if I like it, I should buy it. So buy it I did! Bonus: It has ears!"

Cat washi tape is from Target - I just HAD to have it!

Here's a photo of both pages together so you can get a better idea of the size of the book/project.

So far I am having lots of fun w/ this and it's a great way to use up the "1-photo" photos I take of myself and/or things/events that tell pieces of MY story. I also love it because it's an easy way to use up scraps and the smaller size page allows for faster scrapping while still allowing room for creativity!

I already have another layout in mind...
If only I was home to scrap it...
Soon, and when I do, I'll definitely be sharing!

01/27/18 - "Cats Are Jerks" / -Jan '18 CKC-

Hello!
I created this layout last night using ONLY my January "Counterfeit Blog" kit.
I also used their current challenge of "Inspired By Nature" as inspiration.

2-Page Midori Travelers Notebook Spread
(each page is 4.5 x 8.5)

"Cats Are Jerks"
Journaling:
"David wondered why the plant on our rain barrel was growing so weird; he suspected Panini...he was correct! 07.16.16"

I also scrap lifted this layout from a fellow SB.com member:

This makes Layout #4 for the Counterfeit Challenge and layout #20 of the month.
I'm telling you if you haven't tried scrapping in a Travelers Notebook, you should!

01/26/18 - "(Love)This Boy's Eyes"

Good Morning, and Happy Friday!
Even more happy for me because it's my Friday Off!
Whoot!

Today I am sharing my latest Midori Travelers Notebook Page
(4.5 x 8.5)
Have I mentioned how much I love making these type of pages?!

"(Love) This Boy's Eyes"

Journaling: "This photo doesn't do 'them' justice, but they are truly gorgeous! #BrownEyes
16 Jun 2017"
.
.

Poor Hamlet...so much pink on his layout, LOL!
.
.

For the January Musical Inspiration Song Challenge
The song chosen for me was:
"A New Day Has Come" by Celine Dion
I was inspired by the lyrics:
"All in the eyes of a boy"

I had posted the photo of Hamlet, on Instagram, back in June 2017. The caption I had written to accompany it was: "It's been a while since I shared a photo of this handsome fella; love his pretty brown eyes!"

So it's only natural I use this photo for a layout using that line as inspiration!

I realize technically when I wrote the caption there was only one eye of his showing, but still I felt the need to point it/them out and how much I love them...because they truly are gorgeous!!

BTW - do you see the cute little pig stamp I used (Next to the line "This Boys eyes")?

It's from a company called: Stampmojis
I found them on Instagram and I actually commented on one of their posts and they sent me a free set; SCORE!

The set includes 23 other emoji animal stamp, and 1 poop emoji stamp!

I stamped the dog, the cat, and the pig...since my family includes one of each!

If you want to check them out, here's the link to their site:
Stampmojis Website  (BTW - I'm not getting paid for this... I just think they're cute!

And also I used some items from my favorite paper line at the moment:

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great day!

12/28/17 - Happy Chinese New Year

A photo that printed out  too small became the perfect size photo for a Travelers' Notebook spread!

I've had this photo printed out for probably about 6 months now but felt that it was too small for a layout. In the past I have created 12x12 layouts w/ one photo, but as I get older, as I try out new techniques, and grow as a creative individual, I'm finding I'm not liking creating large layouts w/ only 1 photo on them as much as I used to... plus there is the need to start thinking about saving space! My layout/project numbers are continuing to grow but my house isn't!

I haven't completely stopped creating 1-photo 12x12s, I'm just trying to do less of them.

Which leads to today's 4.5 x 8.5 Midori Traveler's Notebook page :

"Happy Chinese New Year"
Journaling:
Top - "Celebrating the Year of the Rooster"
Bottom - "Our 1st year checking out the festivities.
Downtown Riverside"

One of the reasons I didn't like the size of the photo is you have to look really hard at the bottom three photos to really figure out what's going on.
Once you figure it out, the images stand-out more though, which is why I decided to assist the viewer w/ my caption up above: "Dancers, Drummers and Dragons! Oh my!"

All of the patterned papers I used are from a REALLY old 6x6 paper pad I had in my stash.
I won it from some scrappy contest I entered and only used a few pieces of it.
The paper pad is from Kaiser Craft and it is titled "Lush".
Most of the pad and punch outs are "Asian" inspired; in fact one of prints actually includes the word "Asia" on it.
I never had a need for the more Asian-specific patterns... until now!
This is another time when hoarding items comes in handy!
The rooster I printed off of the internet on regular copy paper.
I then hand-cut it out and outlined it w/ a fine-tipped sharpie creating the perfect final embellishment piece!
I decided to journal directly on the notebook's kraft BG paper since I haven't yet tried that... (see?! trying new techniques and growing as a creative individual)... and I love the way it turned out!

This is one of the last of my 2017 layouts... it's crazy that the year is almost over and that one of my last layouts is from a photo taken at the beginning of this year, LOL!

12/18/17 - "XO - Hogs -N- Kisses"

Okay, show of hands...
How many of you knew by the title of this blog post that Hamlet would be in it.
(You should all have your hands raised)

Here is my latest Midori Traveler's Notebook Spread
It's a 2-pager; each page is approximately 4.5 x 8.5:

"XO - Hogs and Kisses"

Journaling:
"Have you hugged your pig today? No?! Okay, go do it...I'll wait.
Snuggles w/ Grampy; I love these 2 so much! 11.25.17"

The BG (polka-dot) paper and matching stripe paper came from the same paper pack I used for my "Crepes of Wrath" layout: Crepes of Wrath .
If you recall I stated that paper pack is (at least) approximately 16 years old.

This page was inspired by a Color Palette challenge at SB.com.
We were to use this palette as inspiration:

I think I got pretty close... I used a bit more pink then I had planned to, but otherwise... I think I nailed it!
And even if I didn't... at least I was able to get another page done!

#96 for 2017

I also want to share the cover(s) to this book which has morphed into a "Pet Themed" journal:

The left hand side item is a "hard"-shell cover I purchased from Happy Planner on Etsy and the right hand side is the decorative cover I created directly on the front of the notebook.
I think I have just as much fun creating the covers as I do creating the actual pages!
If I can find a more "pet related" cover I will purchase it and switch it out with this one, but for now..."cameras" will work!
BTW - When I say this notebook has morphed into pet themed, this is one of 4 Pet layouts already in the album, one of which I shared on a prior blog post:

I am really enjoying my Traveler's Notebook(s)!

11/15/17 - "Daydream"

Layout #85 of my 75 Layout goal!
Yup... I achieved, and surpassed, my goal!

"Daydream"

Journaling:
"Got this guy up at 10, fed him breakfast and now, at 10:30...look at him! #LazyPig 07.01.17"

Midori Travelers Notebook Spread
My first spread in my new Midori Travelers Notebook.
I love the spread and I love my Midori!
It is so much better than the other No-Name Travelers Notebooks I bought... It's also more expensive which proves the saying "You get what you pay for"!
Wish I had bought more of these when they were on sale!
Size = 21cm×11cm  (approximately 8.5 x 4.5 for each single page).
Amazon Link: Midori #14 - Blank Kraft

My Travelers Notebook "story":
Yes, I've finally gotten into the Travelers Notebook craze and ... I LOVE IT!
Though it took me a while even after I bought my first set.
I bought my first set of TNs in July 2017 and didn't start using them until October.
Their small size intimidated me... I've only really worked on a 12x12 sized BG for most of my nearly 20 year Scrapbooking "career".
But I have found so much more freedom w/ the smaller size because I don't need to fill up so much space!
Sometimes I would feel guilty using a 12x12 for just 1 photo... weird, I know.
Plus the actual album is a lot smaller than a 12x12 album and THAT will also take up much less space.
I find the smaller size gives me the freedom to feel okay in scrapping photos and items I might not have felt comfortable w/ before...cuz, again- the guilt, and it allows me to scrap them faster.
Less fuss!
Plus it's a great way to use up scraps; the 2 pieces of PP and the white paper the title is on are all from my scrap bin!

Besides this layout I am currently working on a Fall Themed album.
This was inspired by my (scrappy) friend - Linda!
Hi, Linda! Thank you! ((Kisses))
I will post more about that, including photos of some of my layouts in a future blog post.
If your curious though...
I've already posted some on my IG Account: Mrs_David_Vasquez

BUT I haven't given up 12x12 sized layouts... I just have another option now.

This year seems to be the year of trying new things for me:
-Pocket Pages
bought some stuff including a 6 month subscription to a pocket page kit - more to come on that
-Digital Project Life
-Travelers Notebooks...
I am even starting to dabble in mixed media but I have a lot of practice before I can share..
Misting is about all I can handle right now - barely, LOL!
I'm enjoying trying new scrappy techniques; my creative hunger really needed me to branch out!

I even have a standard Composition notebook that I have started adding bits and pieces of my life to, including just regular ole' lists and doodles, with plans to add some informal layouts...
This was inspired by Amy Tangerine whose You Tube videos I have been binge-watching!!

Oh, that's another thing, I used to hate watching videos but watching scrap-process videos is also a new (addiction/thing) for me!

I'm SUPER excited to have different places to put my creative energy!
