11/03/18 - CKC November Kit Reveal

Hi there,
Welcome to another installment of the Counterfeit Kit Blog!
This is the inspiration kit for November; it's from Citrus Twist.
It is their October Kit and it is called "Little Things":

Here's the link to the website where you can see more photos of it: Citrus Twist Kit
BEAUTIFUL, right?!
I'm fighting w/ myself NOT to buy it, LOL
(Yes, it's still available!)

I always start creating my kit by making a list of what stands out to me.
Some of these ideas came from the actual papers, some from the embellishments.
  • Flowers
  • Animals
  • Coffee (because of the "coffee rings" paper, bottom left)
  • Music Notes
  • Vines
  • Clouds
  • Stars
  • Cameras
Before I show you my kit I want to tell you I cheated just a little...
But it wasn't intentional, and whether it's cheating or not depends on your personal opinion.

Here's the story.
Last year a "Tuesday Morning" store opened up in a nearby city.
I had heard great things about their scrappy deals and had wanted to check it out but never seemed to have the time or, when I did, remembered to go.
Yesterday I made time, I actually wrote it on my To-Do list (along w/ about 7 other items).
What I heard about their scrappy area as correct; lots of great stuff at low(er) prices!
I was pretty proud of myself as I only spent about $25.

Fast Forward to my drive home when I was looking at my purchases, at a red light of course, and realized that one of the kits I bought would work perfect for my counterfeit kit because it had:
- Music Notes, -Vines, - Clouds, - Stars and - Cameras
It wasn't something I planned I just bought what I liked and it worked out!

So here is my Counterfeit Kit (papers):

Top Left hand side is the kit I was referring to.
Here is a photo of it by itself:

Back to my Counterfeit Kit:
On the right-hand side you will see a Flower PP. That, and the 2 "cut-apart" papers underneath it were also bought at "Tuesday Morning" yesterday. They are from a huge Amy Tangerine Paper Pad I bought for only $6.99!
And as I'm sure you noticed, the "Eclectic" kit was only $5.99.
Yup, deals alright!
You want to know why they're so cheap? Because it's old product.
The "Eclectic" kit is from 2012 and the Amy Tangerine is from 2015.
I don't mind because TBH I miss a lot of the old style of my favorite manufacturers!
I saw some kits for sale that I have already owned, and that I loved, and almost bought them again...but then decided I should get some new (to-me) stuff.
I bought a 2011 Echo Park Christmas Kit ($5.99), some alphas and a few random embellishments as well.

Anyway, let me stop before this turns into a complete "Tuesday Morning" commercial, LOL

All the other papers are from my stash; isn't that Cat Unicorn paper adorable?! That's from Websters Pages
I also have Bella Blvd, Jillibean Soup, Doodlebug, and Crate Paper thrown into the mix!
The mug paper is also Amy Tangerine but it's not new.

Here are my embellishments:

The details:
I found a book printed paper in my stash to mimic the one in the kit.
I pulled out some wood embellishments. I don't even like wood embellishments but they're in the kit and having them in mine will push me to use them! BTW - the "&"s I didn't even know I had until I cleaned my scrap room!
Lots of Coffee and Animal themed items...including cat, dog, and coffee washi tapes
I pulled out my current favorite Gold Alphas, trying to use those up, yet not... (cuz I love them, LOL)
I pulled out 4 stamp sets - Alphas (never been used), Animals (only 1 has been used), Food, and a random fun one with popular Instagram Hashtags like "Taco Tuesday" and "Sunday Funday" (next to the alphas)
A few random enamel shapes and puffy stickers (puffy stickers are Heidi Swapp and are from "Tuesday Morning" also)
A set of rub-ons that are so old I don't even know if they are going to work!
A date stamp
A few other alpha stickers
My Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher
Word Stickers
Random Project Life (like) cards
Journaling Labels
and of course all of my circle making items

Finally -
Not pictured:
-Cardstock in Black, White, Neutral AKA: Beige/Kraft
-Project Life App
-(1) 12x12 Piggy PP that I forgot to put in my paper stack ::doh::!!

I absolutely love my kit, it's one of my faves so far!
Can't wait to get started.

BTW - cast your vote below if you think I "cheated" or not, LOL
(I truly won't get upset if you think I did ::wink::)

10/10/18 - CKC October Kit Reveal

October has been a rough month for me so far!
Nothing specifically bad, I just can't seem to focus...
I'm thinking it was that darn vacation...LOL

Hopefully, it's just temporary as my brain tends to do that every once in a while, a huge side effect from be a sufferer of both depression and anxiety #TruthBomb

Anyway, because of my lack of focus I am a bit behind in getting my Counterfeit Challenge Blog Kit put together for the month.
I like to have it done by the first weekend of the month so I can get scrappin'

Here is the inspiration:

And this is what I came up with (you may recognize some of this stuff from last month):

What I pulled from the inspiration:

- Papers (14 total)
  • Flowers
I have 2 flower paper: white BG with large colorful flowers and dark blue BG with small red, light blue, white, and yellow flowers (top row, far right)
  • Pink
I have 2 of those: one with stars and one, a darker shade of pink, with polka dots
  • Green
Mine has brown hearts on it
  • Words
I have 2 of those: one Fall Themed and one Colorful/Everyday themed (the emoji paper)
  • Stripes
The Green/Yellow/White Paper - could also fall into the Green Category
  • Cut Aparts
I have 2 sets: a Fall Themed set and Colorful/ Everyday set
  • Colorful Multiple Patterned BGs
Everything else, LOL

BTW - I was going to include a wood grain but forgot ::DOH::!

- Embellishments:
  • Black and White (square/rectangle) medium and small Letter Stickers
  • Word Phrases - though mine are black
  • Frames
  • PL Cards - to mimic the words w/in the frames embellishments
  • Lots of brown
  • Buttons - to mimic the sequins because I cannot work w/ sequins, LOL

What I added to play w/:
  • A few sheets of misc, partly used, embellishments and alphas - gotta use that stash!
  • Scraps - always try to include some of these
  • Gold Thickers - cuz currently obsessed
  • Washi - because I have so much I need to use
  • Cat, Dog, Pig papers and embellishments - cuz, you know, fur-babies/hair-kid ::wink::
-1 is a cut-apart, most are colorful
  • 1 Brand New un-opened package of MAMBI stickers -I want to see how much of it I can use
  • Date Stamp and Ink
  • Black Mist - I always try to use it but never do...maybe this month will be the month ::crosses fingers::

Added Essentials (though I didn't photograph them):
  • Black, White and Kraft card stock
  • Black Sharpie
  • White Gel Pen
  • Circle Punch and Template
  • File Labels - for journaling
  • Adhesive
  • The Project Life App

My goal was to mimic the colorfulness of the inspiration kit but also bring in a few darker colors and embellishments because if the fact that it's currently Fall (hence Fall-ish papers and embellishments). I will probably use up a lot of those colorful items but I wanted to have a bit of wiggle room...

BTW - sorry about the bad photos.
The lighting was bad but I knew if I didn't take the photos while I had everything out, I would procrastinate in taking the photos...
I think the only things I do not like about playing along w/ this challenge is trying to get good photos of my kit and having to put away whatever I don't use after the fact, LOL

01/16/18 - "Life Is Good" / -Jan '18 CKC-

I have been feeling very creative lately and have been "crafting-up-a-storm"!
It is January 16th and I have already completed 15 pages this year.
I have been creating in many different forms: 12x12, 6x9, 4.5x8... Traditional, Traveler's Notebooks, Pocket Pages, etc...
And most, if not all of my layouts, have been simple and quick, which is why I have been able to scrap so much in such a short time.
I'm trying to do less over-thinking this year!

Only problem I have w/ the situation is if I want to share I feel like I may be causing sharing-overload to my readers/viewers!

So I'm trying to best determine how to share?
Try to group like projects together and post all at once instead of posting as I complete a project (maybe)?
This would also allow me to have to write less blog posts, which can sometimes be a PITA (Pain in the A$$)!

I'm not sure yet just how I plan on sharing.
But I will be!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For today though,  I will be sharing my latest Counterfeit Kit Club post.

This spread was created using ONLY my Jan CKC kit
Well, not ONLY... there is one item that was not in the kit, but I swear it was an accident!
Accident?
Well, maybe that's not the correct word...
See what had happened wuz...

I started working on the layout on Sunday night...
Then finished it on Monday morning, forgetting for a second that I wanted to use JUST my kit.
By the time I remembered the emoji sticker was already stuck to my photo and there was no way it was coming off, LOL!
But EVERYTHING else is from my kit!
Link to Kit: Doreen Jan CKC kit

The layout is a 2-Page Midori Travelers Notebook Spread; each page is approximately 4.5 x 8.5
("Midori" is the name brand of the notebook )

BTW - I chose the title because it represents how I feel and (probably/hopefully) how Hamlet feels.

"Life Is Good"

Journaling:
"When you look out your kitchen window and see a happy pig enjoying a nap in the sunshine...
you know Life is Good.
12.10.17"
.
.
.
.
It is also a scrap lift of the left-hand side of this layout by a friend over at SB.com:
LN - Lovin' Life

Thanks so much for stopping by!
Until next time...

09/20/17 - September Inspiration Challenge

For the Scrapbook.com (September) Inspiration Challenge
The challenge requires the person who signs up after you to pick your inspiration.
That's always scary since they may pick something completely out of your comfort zone...
Which is what happened her!

Here is what was chosen for me:

-Inspiration Layout-

Though it's beautiful I am just not good w/ using flowers as embellishments, especially lots of flowers, though I do it from time to (rare) time.

 Here is my version:

"Expectations VS Reality"

Journaling:
"What you think you look like taking a photo together -VS- What you really look like".

W/ this layout I had a bit of fun w/ that famous meme "What you think you look like... -VS- What you really look like".

David and I had taken many photos together on our 16th Anniversary night out, including the goofy one on the right.
When tying to figure out how to scrap that particular photo, the meme popped in my mind and I went w/ it. Of course I had to pair it w/ the perfect "contrast" photo which I also had from that night.

If you don't know what I am referring to here are a few more examples:

Image result for how I think I look running vs how i actually lookImage result for how I think I look running vs how i actually look

Image result for how I think I look running vs how i actually look

In the end I was 100%  happy w/ the photos and the idea I used and about 90% happy w/ the overall layout!
BTW - I didn't even realize I used the exact/almost exact polka dot paper on my layout as is in the original layout.  That was purely coincidence as I tend to have tunnel vision w/ these type of things.

09/05/17 - "Quiet Time w/ Grampy"

Hello!
How was your weekend?
I had a nice 3-day weekend and I only work 3 days this week so I'm not feeling too bad on this Monday-Tuesday!

Today I am sharing a layout created w/ a "selfie" my husband took of him and Hamlet (and then sent to me at work...punk! LOL)

"Quiet Time w/ Grampy"

Photo of Hamlet and my husband, AKA Hamlet's "Grampy" taken approximately 2 years ago.
I just love the look on Hamlets face...his eye has an actual 'twinkle' in it! ::swoon::

How this layout came to be:

Inspired by a challenge w/in a challenge over at SB.com.
The Anything Goes Challenge, Weekly Challenge #1 -

Step 1
WHAT COLOR IS YOUR MIND?
https://www.blogthings.com/whatcolorisyourmindqu iz/
Take the quiz (it’s very short).
This will be your color palette for your project.

Step 2
COLOR PSYCHOLOGY
Using the color from step one, select one of the emotions in that color in the chart below as your project "theme."

Step 3
Create a MONOCHROME project using your mental color and emotional theme. ~ Monochrome is a single color project, but you can use shades, tints, and variations in hue. Patterned papers are allowed as long as the pattern does not detract from the overall feel of the layout being a single color. For example: a purple paper with tiny yellow stripes would be acceptable as a purple monochrome, while a purple paper with big red flowers would not.

Purple was my color and I chose "quiet" from the list of "purple" words.

I was very disappointed to wind up w/ the color purple as purple is my least favorite color ever!
But a challenge is a challenge, right?!
So I searched and dug out as much purple as I could and came up w/ a layout I actually really love...despite all it's "purpleness"!
But w/ a photo like that how could I not love it! ::swoon again::

Also I was inspired by this layout which I lifted:

All-in-all a very fun challenge!

Thanks for stopping by!
I'll be back later in the week!

08/21/17 - "Ice Cream Thief"

Hello, and Happy Monday!
I have been neglecting my blog lately, though I have been scrapping quite a bit!

Sometimes I want to share my layouts but don't have the time or energy to do much more than that...
So I just don't post at all.
That's a bad habit to fall into so I am going to try my best to post my layouts even if I don't add much commentary along w/ them.

To get things started, here is the most recent layout I created:

"Ice Cream Thief"

Journaling:
"I really enjoyed this Orange Day Dream ice cream from Walmart and as you can see I'm not the only one! Panini would not leave me alone while I ate it! And, yes, I shared; I'm "that kind" of pet owner. 5.27.17"

05/04/16 - April "Gallery Inspiration" Challenge

My layout for the April "Gallery Inspiration" Challenge over at Scrapbook.com.
This was the inspiration layout chosen for me:

 "My Little Girl"
SB.com Link: My Little Girl

 And my layout:

"What  Are You Gonna Do About it?"
Journaling:
"Panini knows she's not allowed on the table, but took advantage of the fact that my usually clean table is a bit cluttered right now and hid amongst the "mess".
Look at that face.... even after I found her she still gave me that defiant "what are you
gonna do about it?" look.  Not gonna lie, I did absolutely nothing, LOL!
02/23/16"

The original layout is beautiful and I love all the inking and colors and layers!
So that's the features I chose as the inspiration for my layout.

However, I'm not very good at inking so I did minimal.
Unfortunately I don't like the way it came out: the yellow dried to an ugly shade (as far as inking is concerned) and the stencil shape shows up to much... I didn't want viewers to be able to tell I used a rectangle shaped stencil...but oh well... nothing I can do about it now!

The layering was fun, as I enjoy layering and frequently use it on my layouts.
But I had a little bit of trouble this time around...
I'm pretty sure it's because I waited until the deadline day to create my layout; talk about pressure, LOL!
I really wanted to use MORE layers to better mimic the original, but time didn't permit.

Overall I'm pleased.
My favorite part, besides the photo?  That "devil cat"! :0)

04/27/16 - April "Round Robin" Challenge

Hi!
As you know I participate in a lot of challenges over at Scrapbook.com.
One of my favorites is the "Ugly Paper" challenge; I shared April's layout a couple of blog posts prior to this one: April "Ugly" Paper
I have another favorite called the "Round Robin" challenge.
I've also shared a layout from a past challenge on my blog: March "Round Robin" Challenge

Here is a brief explanation of the challenge:

"There are teams of 4 people, one person for each week, similar to a relay race. The person assigned for week 1 in each group will start their team off with a layout depending on what the specs and twist will be. Then the following week, everyone assigned to week 2 will lift off their week 1 team member and so on. It's fun to see how a lift progresses from the first week to the fourth."

I am sharing w/ you my creation for the April Round Robin challenge, but unlike the last time I shared, I am the last person on my team instead of the first.
In order to get an idea of what inspired my layout I will share the proceeding layouts as well.
The first 4 images were NOT created by me:

Starting Inspiration - Twist = Includes Negative Space:

Week #1:
-Inspired by the colors of the original image-
Week #2:
Week #3:

Mine - Week #4:

"San Francisco  4.16-4.19/2016"
 Journaling:
"Alcatraz
Golden Gate Bridge
China Town
Fisherman's Wharf
Union Square
Pier 39 - Sea Lions
Boudin Bakery
Bay Bridge

Sight Seeing
Food &
Quality Time

Long weekend getaway
San Francisco 4.6-4.19/2016"

As I was writing this post I realized, tt's been such a long time since I've done an actual blog challenge.
I think it's because not only do SB.com Challenges keep me busy, but there is more traffic there than on my blog...
Participating in challenges were there is more/frequent interaction inspires me (obviously)!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Included in the following additional April SB.com Challenges:

>"Round Robin" - I am #4 (last week) for my team

04/12/16 - March "Gallery Inspiration" Challenge

Do you remember when I wrote about signing up for 2 "Inspiration" Challenges in March?
If not, here is the post: March Inspiration Challenge.

Unfortunately I  never got around to completing the 2nd Challenge...
I ran out of time during the month; it was the month of Madison's Spring Break and I had forgotten I would be "unavailable" for a week.
Fortunately for me the lady hosting the challenge is someone I've known at SB.com for a while now and she knows I'm not normally a "flake" and allowed me not only to complete the challenge and post whenever I could, but to participate in April's Challenge as well!
I'll be sharing a post about April's challenge at a later date!

Today I'm sharing March's (2nd) Challenge.

This is the layout that was chosen for me to lift:

"If The Shoe Fits"
SB.com link: If the Shoe Fits

I love circles and polka dots so it was definitely in my comfort-zone (That's kind cheating, isn't it? Well, I didn't choose it so it's okay).

And here is my lift:

"Like I Love You"
 Journaling:
"You never love yourself half as much as I love you
You'll never treat yourself right darling but I want you to
If I let you know, I'm here for you
Maybe you'll love yourself like I love you"

This photo is almost a year old and before I lost 28 pounds.
I don't particularly like it but it's one of the only photos I have of me and Madison because she hates to have her photo taken.
As I've mentioned before, in another post,  "You Don't Know You're Beautiful",  she has been going through issues w/ her self esteem and this is why I choose to include this photo along w/ the lyrics.
Even though the song is actually about a "romantic" type of  love, I really felt that these particular lyrics capture how I feel about Madison and how I wish she could see herself like I see her and love herself like I love her.
It took me YEARSSSSSSSS (yes that spelling is intentional) to learn to love myself and I'm really, truly hoping that w/ my love and guidance, Madison will discover that love for herself a LOT sooner!
I think it's moments like this that make it especially hard to have a daughter.

I don't want to leave this post on a "sad" note, so let me share one more thing...

I stated the inspiration piece was w/in my comfort zone, and it's true.
In fact I had created a layout similar to it, years ago, in 2012, although this one was based on a sketch:

"Madison and Joseph @ Laguna"

And to this day, it's still one of my favorite layouts!
So in that sense, the inspiration layout "inspired" me to go back to a design I love!
Challenge, successful!

03/08/16 - March "Round Robin" Challenge

This month I have signed up for 2 Inspiration Challenges over at Scrapbook.com.

Today I am showing you one of my layouts (the other I haven't completed yet).

The was created for the "Round Robin" Challenge:
"There are teams of 4 people, one person for each week, similar to a relay race. The person assigned for week 1 in each group will start their team off with a layout depending on what the specs and twist will be. Then the following week, everyone assigned to week 2 will lift off their week 1 team member and so on. It's fun to see how a lift progresses from the first week to the fourth."

I was week 1 for my team.
This was the starting inspiration (not created by me):

"Romance"

I went a whole other direction w/ it, pun intended,  while still including some of the original in my design.
I went for funny (though true) with my layout.
I also included the challenge's twist of "write a letter as part of your LO".
I wrote a letter to One Direction, LOL.

"Dear One Direction"
(It's on a white BG which is difficult to see on my blog BG)

Journaling: "March 5th, 2016
Dear One Direction - I'm 40 yrs old and a huge fan. I've loved your music since taking my daughter to your concert in Sept 2014. She has since outgrown you but I've become a bigger fan. I've been listening to your latest cd , "Made in the AM", almost daily since buying it in Nov 2015. Thanks for the great music! -Signed Mom who loves 1D
P.S. Please don't break up!"

I realize to some it may be silly... but I love music, especially Boy Band music and thought it would be fun to capture this time of my life and what group/artist I was into at the time.
After all... good, bad, ugly, funny... scrapbooking is all about capturing memories, right?

03/01/16 - February "Gallery Inspiration" Challenge

I mentioned in my previous blog post, Such a Good Boy,  that I created 3 layouts this past weekend.
I also mentioned I would be sharing 2 of the 3 this week.
This is the 2nd one I wanted to share.

I created a layout for the February "Gallery Inspiration" Challenge over at Scrapbook.com.
The challenge is that the inspiration piece is selected by the person who signs up after you.
This was the inspiration layout chosen for me:

(Remember... not my creation)

Although beautiful it is definitely NOT my style!

As you will see from my lift I incorporated a few elements: scattered sequins, folded corner, stamping in the bottom right... but my layout is simpler and has a way different feel.
But I WAS inspired by the layout and I really love the outcome!

"Yum (Bourbon Hot Chocolate)"
Journaling: "Drinks with friends at "The District" in Downtown Redlands.
Tried my first Bourbon Hot Chocolate.
It was yummy!"

I find it funny that even though I was inspired by something out of my comfort zone, I wound up creating something that is still my style!
Regardless, without the inspiration piece there are things I wouldn't have thought to add to this layout, so "my style" or not the challenge was good for me!

Although I initially I had a tough time w/ it and barely got it finished in time (1 day to spare!) I wound up enjoying the challenge AND loving my layout so I have signed up for the March edition!
