11/13/17 - MIM Sketch #100

Happy Monday!
Today's post is bittersweet because today I'm sharing with you Make It Monday sketch #100!
100 is quite a milestone...
But, it also is the last sketch from The Memory Nest...at least for a while.
The Memory Nest is taking a break.
It's sad but needed.
I will miss Leslie and her sketches, but hopefully it won't be for too long.

Here it is MIM sketch #100:

"Find Someone Who Loves You As Much As Panini Luvs This Pillow"
Journaling:
"Panini loves our new living room pillow!
It's a Body Pillow so she's using it correctly...
$11.99 at Costco.
Top photos taken: 09/28/17
Bottom taken: 09/29/17"

The top 2 photos I took.  The bottom photo David took, the next day, and sent it to me at work.
Panini really loves that pillow! I don't blame her, it is really comfortable.
We bought 2 of them; the second one is in our room.

I had a lot of fun using my Project Life and Simple Stories cards on this.
I've had them for a few years now.
I'm trying to use my stuff more. I'm always afraid to "use up" my stuff... but why buy it just to have it stay in in the packaging? That's not what it's for!
Also I realized theres always more "stuff" I want to buy so might as well make room,  right?
LOL

You have until November 30th to play along with Sketch #99 and #100.

11/06/17 - MIM #99

Stopping by real quick-like to share the latest Make it Monday sketch from

MIM# 99

"This Is Awesome"

Journaling:
"Today 02 Nov 2017
I was featured on the Awesome Ladies Project IG Account.
It's a Thursday 3 Post; take a selfie and list 3 Right Now facts.
1. This is me: messy hair, messed up/non-existent make-up, wrinkled clothes, tired face…basically a “not-so-perfect” selfie… cuz life isn't always perfect and that's okay!
2. Wearing my favorite shirt! The only reason it's my favorite is because my “You Had Me At Pumpkin Spice” shirt can only be worn a couple months out of the year! LOL
3. I'm sooo Obsessed w/ Niall Horan's new cd, “Flicker”… buy it, buy it!"

You have until November 30th to submit your layout.

10/16/17 - MIM #98

Happy Monday to you!
Today I am sharing Make It Monday Sketch #98 from "The Memory Nest" blog.

MIM Sketch #98

"A Place For His Head"
Journaling:
"While watching "Wonder Woman" at our friends' house, their dog Zeus decided to lay his head on David and fall asleep."

(09.03.17 <<< Oops,  Need to add the date!)

Too cute, amirite?!
So of course I had to get a photo of it!

I love this layout and how quickly it came together! It was one of those that once I got the colors and PP selected, all the other pieces just kinda fell into place!

The title came from a SB.com Challenge; the Music Challenge.
One of the categories is to choose a song title and use it on your layout. I used "A Place For My Head by Linkin Park, but changed "My" to "His".
Also the twist was orange, which was perfect because I was planning on using orange anyway!

Well, that's all from me today!
Hope you'll join us and play along w/ this, or our October 2nd, sketch!
You have until October 31st to enter your layout.

10/02/17 - MIM #97

Hello!
Today I am bringing you sketch #97 from the Memory Nest.
If you're thinking it's been a while since I shared one of these, you're correct!
IDK what happened w/ me... but I totally missed the deadline's for both of the September sketches, DOH!

Anyway, October is a whole new month, so here we go...

I used a flipped version of the sketch for my layout.

 "His Good Side"
Journaling:
"This little guy is big enough to get his front hooves up on our couch now.
9.6.15"

Basically the story is...
I was sitting on the couch watching TV, I was probably eating, and Hamlet jumped up and placed his hooves on the couch in front of me!
It was quite a shock as he had never done that before!
Of course I grabbed my phone and took a photo of him.
When I posted the photo to my Instagram account, one of my friends made the comment, "Hahaha! He's like 'make sure you get my good side'!" and I decided that if I ever scrap this photo I would use something similar to that as my title.

BTW - he has never learned to actually jump on the couch despite us repeatedly trying to get him to do so!
Looks like he peaked in 2015, LOL!

08/14/17 - MIM #94

Happy Monday!
Today is "Make It Monday" over at the "The Memory Nest" blog.
Here is sketch # 94; you have until August 31st to play along!

"Father's Day 2017"
Journaling:
"When Madison was younger we used to take her to La Jolla w/ us to celebrate Father's Day*. As she got older, she wanted to hang w/ us less and less, so we stopped going. This year I mentioned to David how much I missed those trips, so we went... just the 2 of us.
June 18th 2017"

*Joseph was always with his dad, as it should be*

We are Almost-Empty-Nesters...
A fact that makes me both happy and sad.
Happy because I get more quality time w/ my husband and we get more freedom, but sad because...well, obviously, that means my babies are grown!
My son is 22 and still lives at home but he's got his own life, though he allows me into it from time to time. My daughter is 15 and though she still "needs" us, she's an independent introvert, so "parenting" is almost non-existent at this point.
That's why I've been trying to do more of the things we used to enjoy w/ the kids, without the kids.
Just because they have decided not to do those things w/ us any more doesn't mean we should miss out!

BTW - The BG paper, photo mat paper, and summer stickers & embellishments are all from the July Scrap Room kit: The Scrap Room Monthly Kits

08/07/17 - MIM #93

"Make It Monday" Sketch #93
The first sketch for August from the "The Memory Nest" Blog:

As for my layout...
I did use shapes but in a slightly different way.
Also the arrow and "flair", in my case a button, are there:

 "This Little Piggy"

Journaling:
"I frequently get asked "How big is Hamlet?" and since he's difficult to measure, I never really have a good answer.
Well, maybe this will help...I'm 5'1
5.11.17"
.
.
.
.
And a PSA, remember: He IS a Mini-Pig. Despite what people think and what most breeders, AKA bad & unethical breeders, would like you to believe they will not stay as little as they are when they're born.
Mini-Pig simply means they will not/should not grow as big as a farm pig, which can reach up to 600+ pounds. "Micro" and "Tea Cup" pigs do not exist. Those are terms breeders use so they can charge lots of money when selling their pigs. Unfortunately people fall for this and when the pig gets too big it gets abandoned. 😢
Do your research before getting any kind of animal, especially a pig!

Hope you do too!

"OUCH!"

Journaling:
"They grow up so fast!
Nose and Industrial Barbell Piercings for my baby girl...
who is no longer a baby. :sniff:
Both fit her look/personality so well!
She didn't even flinch with the barbell but got a little bit teary-eyed with the nose piercing.
Her dad and I almost hurled with both, bahahaha! #TrueStory
06/04/17"

I have my nose pierced; got it done about 2 years ago.
I have also had my belly button pierced, though it's been since removed, and I have 2 sets of piercings in my ears.
So you would think it'd be no big deal for me for my daughter to get piercings.
And it wasn't, I mean the concept wasn't... I can accept that she's growing up...barely...
But, OMG actually seeing her get pierced, knowing someone was placing 3 holes into my daughter, aside from just a regular ear piercing that I had her get as a baby, it... it LITERALLY made me sick to my stomach. In fact as I write this and remember it, I'm getting sick to my stomach again, LOL

Anyway, she loves it and it fits her so well and makes her so happy that I love it too!
Even her dad, the biggest critic about these type of things, thinks it looks great on her!
But yeah, the growing up part he's not so cool w/!

07/02/17 - MIM #91

Hello!
Today I bring you MIM Sketch #91 from the "The Memory Nest" blog:

"Krusty Land"

Journaling:
"Took a Wednesday off to enjoy one last visit to Universal Studios before our Annual Passes expired.
These are just random photos from "Krusty Land". 1.4.17"

As you can see I went in a totally different direction w/ my layout while still keeping the basic theme of the original sketch: the circles!
TBH I didn't plan my weekend very well to include some quality crafty time and I had 2 layouts to get done for 2 different Monday reveals, so I had to keep things simple.
My lack of time also explains why the coloring of the photo of the layout is a bit off; had trouble taking a good photo of it as I completed it after daylight was almost gone...
but you get the idea.

::Note to Self -- Work on Better Time Management::

Anyway...
Instead of cutting/punching out circles for my layout I decided to go w/ paper w/ circles already on it.
And the colors of this paper match our "Krusty Land" photos so well I decided to use more than 1 photo.

I had been struggling w/ these photos because there isn't too much of a story behind them.
But I realize that not all pages have to have a "story" per se...sometimes it's nice just to scrap photos because you like them!

Please join us in telling your story... or non-story...
You have until July 31st.

06/12/17 - MIM #90

Here we go again!
But this is a good "here we go again"!

MIM Sketch #90

 "Breakfast 6.3.17"
Journaling:
"Love it when my coffee mug color coordinates w/ my breakfast!
Coffee and a (65g) slice of Strawberry Krunch Cake 165 calories.
6.3.17"

I'm a foodie!
I love food and trying new foods and talking about food and taking pictures of food and..
well you get the idea!

I'm thinking of buying a Travelers Notebook or something similar to scrap these photos so I don't have tons of 12x12 layouts w/ just 1 photo on them, LOL
But in this case it works!

I have had that BG paper in my stash forever + infinity!
I loved it but never knew what to do w/ it but it just felt perfect for this photo, though I would NEVER have thought of scrapping a food photo w/ it!
But the pre-printed cluster at the bottom left reminded me of the title area of the sketch and it would required no additional work except adding the title so as a "lazy" scrapper, I was sold, LOL

You have until June 30th to join in on the fun!

06/05/17 - MIM Sketch #89

Happy Make it Monday to you!
Here is Sketch #89 from the "The Memory Nest" Blog:

"Sunday Funday May Edition"

Journaling: "On Sundays David and I like to go out for a nice lunch and dessert"

This is pretty much a routine for David and I.
We eat well, low-cal, and pretty much "healthy" all week long so that on Sunday's we can enjoy a large very delicious meal and dessert w/out it affecting us either weight or health-wise.
It is quite fun and of course, YUMMY!
For those who follow my IG Food Account I'm always preaching "Balance" and this is part of our Balance.

I'm sure you're thinking, other than the circle on the left-hand side, this doesn't look too much like the sketch, and at first glance, yes you're correct... but if you pay attention to the way I place all the elements on the right-hand side, you will see that I kind of  mimicked the sketches down-ward angle shape.
I was having a lot of trouble trying to get my photos to look good side by side (as opposed to up and down) especially w/ the added element of that shaped BG so I decided to just do w/out either. I did add a card that is divided by color into 2 triangles so there's THOSE triangles to help tie my layout into the sketch.

And then I just had fun adding bits and pieces here to give the layout more "eye-candy" as well as to use up some of my stash items.
There are only 4 "newish" items on here... everything else is at least 1 year old or much, much older!

You have until 06/30/17 to submit your layout based on this sketch; hope you join us!

05/15/17 - MIM Sketch #88

Good Monday Morning to you!
Today I am sharing w/ you the latest sketch from the "The Memory Nest" blog:

MIM Sketch #88

And here is my interpretation of it:

NERD!

JOURNALING:  "The definition of nerd!
Joseph reading while wearing his Storm Trooper Helmet.
I'm still trying to understand the situation, LOL!
9.12.15"

I was inspired by:
> the 1 photo
> the stars scattered throughout
> the title right under the photo
> the "box" on the left of the photo (that I used for my journaling)
> the overall design of the sketch w/ it's  scattered items

It was a fun, fast, easy sketch to use!
I hope you have as much fun w/ it!
Don't forget to link up your layout before the end of the month!

05/01/17 - MIM #87

It's Monday again...ugh!
But today's Monday is "Make It Monday", yay!

Today I am bringing you sketch #87 from the "The Memory Nest" blog:

"Forest Falls"
Journaling: "Enjoyed nature and quality time with the hubby this morning!
A beautiful place to get in some exercise!
03.26.17"

The layout called for 3 photos but I was able to fit 7 thanks to a photo collage app
::fist pump::!

I also DID use a Project Life card...
1, cut apart, used in 2 places on my layout:
"Today" and the bottom of that same card was used for my journaling area.

I then scattered stickers to mimic the "boxes" scattered throughout the sketch.
BTW that BG paper is ANCIENT and the "explore" sticker is just a bit more recent than "ancient" but barely!

Can't wait to see what you create!
You have until May 31st to submit your creation.

04/10/17 - MIM Sketch #86

Hey, there... Hi, There!
Sorry I haven't been around but I have been majorly lacking mojo lately.
The last layout I created was such a chore... not because I don't like scrapbooking, cuz you totally know I do, but because the creativity was...just...not...flowing! #BOOO
But today's layout is a different story.
Today's layout is one that came together fairly quickly and easily and... I love it!

First the sketch that inspired it!

MIM Sketch #86

And now my layout!

"Hello Weekend"
Journaling: "Tagged for a "Stop, Drop, and Selfie"
Just kickin' it in my favorite new sweater bought, on Wednesday
Night, for 50% off at the Gap Factory Store in Redlands.
And "no", I'm not wearing it too early; it is in fact, already the start of my
weekend...it's my Friday off, suckers!
04/07/17

My apologies for sharing  2 "selfie" layouts in a row but TBH... I like taking "selfies" and I gotta scrap whatever photos my creativity draws me to...so there you have it!

Where is your creativity drawing you?
Hopefully to join us in this challenge!
You have until April 30th to submit an entry; good luck!

04/03/17 - MIM Sketch #85

Happy Make It Monday to you!

Today I'm bringing you:

MIM Sketch #85

"Happy Monday"
Journaling:
"Happy Monday...right?!
I mean, those two words: "happy" and "Monday" can go in a sentence together...I think...
though for me it's rare! I have my coffee, my hair is looking good again thanks to some much
needed time at the salon,  and I bought a cute comfty sweater for 50% off this weekend
so maybe, just maybe, this will be a Happy Monday! 03.20.17"

The sketch is actually entitled "Scallops" and I'm sure you can see why.
I didn't use any scallops on my layout though,  I just wasn't feeling the "scallop" vibe, but I still followed the sketch pretty closely:
  • 2 photos - one bigger one smaller
  • the photo placement
  • the crooked paper behind the photos
  • the embellishment(s) on the right hand side of the larger photo
  • the title at the bottom left.
Why am I pointing all this out?
Because I don't want you to be scared of/not try using a sketch because you can't copy it EXACTLY... just use pieces of it to inspire you!

Hope I've inspired you to play along; you have until April 30th to get your entry in at The Memory Nest !

03/06/17 - MIM Sketch #83

Hello!
Today I'm bringing you "Make It Monday Sketch" #83 from the "The Memory Nest" blog:

 "Happy 2ND"
Journaling: "Hamlet's Birthday is on March 1st; National Pig Day. 2017 was his
2nd Birthday. Besides lots of love, per usual, we fed him a mint
flavored Hostess cupcake"

Yup, that's right our Hamlet is now 2 years old; they grow up so fast!
.
.
.
.
.
BTW if you came here from the "The Memory Nest" blog you may (or may not) have noticed a slight change on my layout.
After I sent in my layout, to my "Bloggy Boss" Leslie, I decided I didn't like the star at the bottom of the layout; I thought it looked out-of-place.
When I took the star off it ripped my paper.... so I had to cover up the flaw.
I thought that covering it up with a small punched out circle of the same PP would be a good way to fix it... and I was right; I love it!
Love when covering up a mistake actually works out, LOL!
.
.
.
.
.
You have until March 31st to play along w/ us!

02/13/17 - MIM Sketch #82

Happy Monday and Happy Holiday...if you get today off of work like I do! ::fist pump::
Today is Lincoln's Birthday... I think...
Don't really care, LOL
It's also Monday, specifically "Make It Monday"!
The new sketch is up at the "The Memory Nest" blog.

Here it is for your viewing pleasure:

"MIM #82"

"Netflix Cat"
Journaling (Main): "Trying to watch Netflix but someone won't let me!
Guess I'll just watch the walls instead... 2.11.17"
(Sub): "At least now I can see!"

I don't have a problem using just one photo on a layout, in fact I frequently do so, but I do enjoy it when I can use more than one, especially when the sketch I'm using only calls for one photo, AND when I can still keep the integrity of the original sketch.
As you can see despite the use of 3 additional photos I still followed the sketch pretty closely!

All the PPs on here are cat-themed patterned.
I specifically chose the red PP because Netflix's logo color is red.
BTW - that Red PP and the "cat tag" have both been in my stash since June 2014.

Part of the journaling, "...'watch the walls instead..." is part of a lyric from a song.
It was included in order to complete a challenge I'm in over at SB.com; the "Musical Inspiration" challenge.
The song chosen for me was: "Friday, I'm in Love" by the Cure.
*THE TWIST* was to not use the word 'love' on our layout.
I met the twist which I thought would be impossible to do!

That's all from me today!
Hope you enjoy your Monday and that you have a chance to join us in the challenge; you have until February 28th.

02/06/17 - MIM #81

Hello, hello!
If you have time, please stop by the "The Memory Nest" Blog because "Make It Monday" Sketch #81 is up and ready to inspire!

 Here is the sketch:

I used a rotated version of it for my layout:

"SING"

Besides rotating it I also moved the title.
If you're wondering... yes, I bought the stickers special for this layout.
I came across them at Michaels's and knew they'd be PERFECT for these photos!

Hope you find some inspiration and scrappy time so you can join us this month!
Don't forget to link up your layout to be in the running for a prize!

01/16/17 - MIM #80

Hi!
How's your year going so far?
Today I'm sharing a super simple layout inspired by the second/current January "Make It Monday" sketch from the "The Memory Nest" blog.

MIM #80

 "Spotty's Patience"

Journaling: "January 8th, 2017
As a joke, David decided to vacuum Spotty. Spotty actually liked it! In fact he liked
it so much he waited patiently while David cleaned out the vacuum hose so
that he could get another session"

TBH the sketch overwhelmed me a bit; there's just so much "stuff" on it!
Not that I mind a lot of embellishments, it's just that usually when I use a lot of embellishments it's because creating the layout just kinda takes me there...it's not criteria I am trying to meet.
I decided not to worry so much about matching all the little squares/photos/embellishment pieces in the sketch and just do what I normally do, which is to be inspired by the overall design.
IDK why I had thought I needed to detour from my norm?!
Besides the 3 photos which I choose to make up the majority of the layout I also used 2 Project Life cards: 1 as a whole for journaling and the other I cut up to use as an embellishment in 2 separate areas of the layout. I added a few theme related stickers and I was finished!
I didn't include a title because I liked the look of the layout just fine the way it was...and besides, who says you have to have a title on every layout? The photos and journaling certainly explain the story!
Now it's time for you to share a story w/ us!
You have until January 31st to submit a layout using this sketch or sketch #79!

01/02/17 - MIM #79

Happy New Year!
Happy 2017!
Happy First Monday of the year!
Happy First "Make It Monday" of the year!

Today MIM Sketch #79 is up live over at the "The Memory Nest" blog:

Here is my layout -

"Snapchat/Hog Heaven"

Journaling: "December 14th, 2016
Snapchat creates a pig filter!"

As the "grandmother" of a mini-pig I was very excited to discover they made a pig filter.
If you do not have Snapchat then you don't know that sometimes when they create a new filter it's only available for a day...
So not only was I very happy to discover they made a pig filter but I was excited that I found it when it was actually still available!
So of course, I made sure to snap and save some photos for my scrapbook!

As for the sketch, I was shocked to discover I had no large chevron print patterned papers!
I looked through my stash, new and old, and came up empty!
So I decided instead to just copy the basic design concept of the sketch.
I used and old piece of PP that had been sitting in my stash for years and finished the layout off w/ a scattering of stickers that related to the theme.
Overall it was an easy layout to create.
Honestly most of my time was taken looking for a piece of chevron paper, LOL!

Now it's your turn; you have until January 31st, 2017 to play!

Her is the wonderful sketch you will be working with if you play along:

 MIM #78

And here is the layout I created... out of all Hoarded items BTW.
The newest scrapbook item on here (minus the file labels; date unknown) is from September 2013.

"Family Tradition"
Journaling: "Starbucks while picking out our tree. First time Joseph wasn't
with us; he was missed. 11/20/16"

It's a Family Tradition to go to the Christmas Tree Farm in November to pick out our tree.
We always include a treat either before or after the event.
This year we went to Starbucks on the way to the Christmas Tree Farm.
As you can see from our cold drinks, it was a hot day!

This is the first year our son wasn't w/ us.
At 21 years old, he has his own life now and isn't always around to do things w/ the family.
He was missed but we understood.
And it's something we will just have to get used to.

Looking forward to seeing what you create.
You have until December 31st!
