08/14/17 - MIM #94

Happy Monday!
Today is "Make It Monday" over at the "The Memory Nest" blog.
Here is sketch # 94; you have until August 31st to play along!

"Father's Day 2017"
Journaling:
"When Madison was younger we used to take her to La Jolla w/ us to celebrate Father's Day*. As she got older, she wanted to hang w/ us less and less, so we stopped going. This year I mentioned to David how much I missed those trips, so we went... just the 2 of us.
June 18th 2017"

*Joseph was always with his dad, as it should be*

We are Almost-Empty-Nesters...
A fact that makes me both happy and sad.
Happy because I get more quality time w/ my husband and we get more freedom, but sad because...well, obviously, that means my babies are grown!
My son is 22 and still lives at home but he's got his own life, though he allows me into it from time to time. My daughter is 15 and though she still "needs" us, she's an independent introvert, so "parenting" is almost non-existent at this point.
That's why I've been trying to do more of the things we used to enjoy w/ the kids, without the kids.
Just because they have decided not to do those things w/ us any more doesn't mean we should miss out!

BTW - The BG paper, photo mat paper, and summer stickers & embellishments are all from the July Scrap Room kit: The Scrap Room Monthly Kits

  4. I totally get the mixed emotions, but it kind of sounds like you have the best of all worlds in a way. You still see your kids daily and you're there when they need you, but you get your own time and own life, too. At least, that's the positive spin I'll put on it when I'm in the same situation someday!
