02/18/14 - SIT Febuary Sketch

Good Morning!
Happy Monday...I mean Tuesday-that-feels-like-a-Monday!
Is it Friday yet?!
I was so not ready for my weekend to end.
I swear, even w/ 4 days it was still too short!
I'm missing my house, my kids, and most of all my honey!
Oh well, back to reality!

As I was perusing my blog, I realized I forgot to publish this post last week...
Oopsie!
Good thing the challenge is a month long!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Unfortunately since it came back at short notice I was unable to participate in January's sketch assignment.

Today I bring you February's sketch and my layout:

"Petting Zoo"
Journaling: "Madison and Joseph's favorite part of every fair"

I went a little crazy w/ the patterns on here...but it was so much fun!
However, I realized after I was done w/ the layout I didn't scrap much of the "petting" part of the Petting Zoo! LOL!
Oh, well! I REALLY like the pictures and they are AT a petting zoo so it works!
(Right?)

Please stop by the blog and check out the other great layouts!
Because we only have to make one layout a month for SIT there is less demand on our time which means more DT examples for each sketch!
It's fun seeing the different interpretations of the same sketch!
We'd like to see yours as well!

09/06/13 - Farewell From SIT

"Sketches In Thyme" is saying farewell.
Our fearless leader Tiffany needs to take a break and as sad as it is to see SIT go, it's understandble...we all need a break sometimes!

The blog will still be up so that you can  draw inspiration from the sketches that were shared over the years. Think of this as time to catch up on all the sketches you didn't have time to play w/ before!

There is a "goodbye" post up right now in which some of the DT members, including myself, have chosen one of our favorite sketches and our takes on it.

Please stop by and check it out: Farewell

08/22/13 - SIT Sketch #121 - "Bike For Two"

Hi Friends!

There is a new sketch up today at "Sketches W/ Thyme"!
A two-pager since it is the last sketch of the month.

Here is the sketch:

#121

and here is my one-page version of it.

 "Bike For Two"
Journaling: "4/14/13 After getting new bikes for the family the kids took
one more ride on an old one"

I had to change it a bit to fit one extra picture in it since I was only doing a one-page layout.
I didn't change it too much and in the end I love the way it came out.  Part of what I love about it is it is a simple layout but w/ enough "extras" to still make it look cute! And I just love the way layouts w/ small pictures look!

Hope you're inspired!
Now come show us what you can do!
You have until August 31, 2013.

08/08/13 SIT Sketch #119 - "Last Day of 5th Grade"

Hiya!!
The new sketch is up at "Sketches in Thyme"!

Today we have sketch #119:

And here is my layout:

"Last Day of 5th Grade"
Journaling: "Madison and her BFF, Emily, on the last day of 5th grade"

This layout came together really quick! For the most part I followed the sketch... the only differences is on mine is I used 2 pics and instead of the circle I used a square. I kept the matting of the pics simple, Black on White, because the BG paper is was so busy!  I'm actually not too big a fan of the BG paper but I used it because it was in an old "Elementary School" paper pad I have had for years and I am still trying to get rid of my stash! Also this would be one of the last times I could use "Elementary" school paper, ::sniff, sniff::. I threw in some stickers and washi tape for added embellishment but for the most part I didn't put too many extras because, again, the BG paper is so busy! I DO like that the BG paper says "Last Day of School" and "Friends" on it... helps me feel I made the right choice!

Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to stop by SIT and share your take on the sketch!

07/18/13 SIT Sketch #118 - "Yay or Nay"

Hi there friends!
Here today to share w/ you the 3rd and final "Sketches In Thyme" sketch for July, 2013 .

Sketch #118:

And my (one-page) interpretation:

"Yay or Nay"
Journaling: "David took Madison to the Orange Show and they tried two new foods:
1. Fried Red Velvet Cake   2. Bacon Cotton Candy
The cake got a thumbs up but the cotton candy got a thumbs down. June 9, 2013"

I kept w/ the three rows of columns, the 3 pictures, and the inclusion of a star embellie. I also used a large piece of paper in the BG but choose to place it under my pictures instead of under the columns.
The rosette embellie says "Sweet Surprise" on it which was perfect for the layout theme and this made me happy as it has been in my stash for a while and I was glad I found an appropriate place to use it.

Usually I have a lot to say but this time I'm keeping my post short and sweet..... BTW, that pun wasn't intentional! LOL!

Stop on by and enter a layout for any of the July sketches for a chance to win a guest designer spot!

07/04/13 SIT Sketch # - 116 "Music Lover"

My poor son!
He gets neglected...
He's the older child and the less demanding one,  so he gets pushed aside more than I would like to admit. :0(
That also seems to be true when it comes to taking pictures and creating layouts.
Although this is certainly not intentional!

Well today is about him, well at least my blog post and layout is!
I created a layout about him using the latest sketch at "Sketches In Thyme".

 Sketch #116

 "Music Lover"
Journaling (a quote): "One good thing about music, when it
hits you, you feel no pain" - Bob Marley

My son loves music! He is always listening to it.
I find him w/ his ear buds in more than not! And his latest obsession is Pandora.
In these pics he was working on a school project but every so often I would catch him messing w/ his phone...I'm assuming looking for more music to listen to.

The sketch called for one big picture and a "film strip" of 3 smaller pictures. Since I didn't have that I filled the "film strip" spot w/ a piece of solid color paper that was approximately the same length as the sketch called for and used that to anchor another picture.  The rest of my layout pretty much followed the sketch to a "T" although my title is much lower! I was having a bit of trouble deciding which color/patterned paper to use as my big rectangle in the BG and then I decided I would just doodle it instead! Love the way it came out! I'm definitely trying that again!

06/20/13 - SIT Sketch #115

It's new sketch time over at "Sketches In Thyme"!
Whoot! Whoot!

Today's sketch is Sketch #115:

And here is my layout:

"4th Grade "
Journaling: Madison's 4th Grade school picture
Kelley Elementary

Sketches are a great way to jumpstart your creativity!

And you don't always have to follow the sketch exactly; just use it as inspiration.
Having said that, sometimes I look at sketches and the examples of layouts created based on those sketches and think..."that looks NOTHING like the sketch!".
Not to say that it's wrong, afterall, as I said above, sketches are to be used for inspiration.
Plus there are no rules to scrapbooking!
However, I sometimes think to myself "I wish I could see what parts of the sketch actually carried over to the layout."
It's a curiousity thing for me.
And a lot of times it's there, I just can't see it myself.

How 'bout you?
Do you feel the same?

Well, whatever your answer is,  I ask you another question: can you tell how I was inspired by the sketch?

If not, let me explain:
 >There was a spot for 6 pics. I only used 4 but filled up the remaiing space w/ a 4-blocked patterned paper to mimic the look of 6 pics.
> I used a banner at the bottom of the pics to take the place of the dotted line border at the bottom of the original sketch.
> Instead of a large scallop shape on the left, I included doodling around my banners (I left the one on the right off)
> The title placement is the same as the sketch although lower
> The hand written journaling is the same as the sketch, although a bit less

A little FYI:
I like to scrap multiples of the wallet pics that come in the school packages because I never give them away and then they just sit there. The reason I order the wallets in the first place is that the package choices never fit what I want and so I just order the package that's the closest.

I went really girly w/ the layout while still trying to keep true to  the school theme.
The "ABC" stencil PP, the composition paper journaling card, and the "learn" sticker all say "school", while the rest of the layout says "girly".

Overall I love the layout...just one thing that bothers me....I didn't realize how close to the edge I had stuck the composition journaling card! To me it ruins the whole balance of the layout! Ughhhh!
I hate when I make a silly mistake like that!
Next time I get a chance to scrap, I'm going to see if there is anyway to extend the layout slightly in order to make my mistake look a bit less awkward.

Well, perfect or not, please stop by the "Sketches In Thyme" blog and share your inspired creation w/ us!

06/06/13 - SIT: #113 and SIWAS: "Suit and Tie"

Hi!
I'm here to today to share 2 challenges and my layouts based on those challenges...

 First-

Sketch #113:

Here is my interpretation:

"Remember When...Happy Day"

These pics were taken during Spring Break of this year. We went up to the San Jacinto mountains to go hiking and my hubby took these pics of my daughter and I. My daughter rarely takes pictures w/ me... and I am rarely in pictures so I love these pics!

I had a lot of fun with the "cluster of circles" part of the sketch! And I am still LOVING those self adhesive kraft shapes! I really need to get to Target and see if they have any more!

*
*

Second-

First off, let me tell you... it is not my Teams week to complete a layout, but when I saw what song was chosen as this week's inspiration I just had too make one anyway!

The song is....drum roll please...."Suit and Tie" by Justin Timberlake.
But of course, if you actually read my post title you already knew that! LOL!

I have loved JT since he was in *NSync, and when he went solo I followed him and he did not disappoint! I have continued to be a huge fan of his and his lastest CD is my obsession right now! So when the other half of our Design Team was assigned his current hit as their inspiration, I just had to jump in and create something as well!

"Dressed Up In Black and White"
Journaling: "David and Madi dancing in the lobby before dinner 10/24/11"

The song actually was an inspiration in many ways for this layout:
> The title, "Suit and Tie" (see my hubby's clothes)
> the fact that the song is about dancing (self-explanatory)
> the line "And you're dressed in that dress I like" (see my daughter's dress)
But I finally settled on another lyric from the song for my title: "All Dressed Up in Black & White"..
although I took out the word "All" because those little letter stickers are a pain to work w/! LOL!
They are both wearing black and white, hence the title choice,  and although it may be difficult to tell my daughter's dress also has pink on it... that's why I went w/ a lot of pink on my layout! Besides the  being happy w/ the look of the layout, I am also happy because I used a lot of leftover items on this!

The pics were taken when we were on our Disney Cruise in 2011. We were waiting in the lobby to be seated for dinner and they were playimg music so my husband grabbed my daughter and started dancing w/ her.  It was the first time they had ever done something like that and she was a little startled at first but later on she got into it and she really enjoyed it! It's hard to tell but in the picture on the right, she actually has her eyes closed as she rests her head on her daddy's chest. Such a precious moment!!!

Okay, that's all from me today!
Don't forget to stop by either or both blogs to share you're inspired creations!
You have until June 30th!

05/23/13: SIT -Sketch #112 and SIWAS - "Let It Rain"

It's 2 for 1 Thursday on my blog today!
I have 2 layouts to share w/ you for 2 different blog challenges!
Hmmm... would that then be 2 for 2 instead of 2 for 1?
IDK...but who cares! LOL!

First layout is for the current challenge over at "Sketches In Thyme"; Sketch #112.

Here is the original sketch:

And this is what I was inspired to create:

"Box Fun"

Journaling: "Just like the stereotype about kitties goes,
Panini loves playing in boxes"

As you can see I strayed from the original quite a bit! Not only did I not do the 2 pager (although I never do, LOL) I also only used some of the elements of the original sketch.  I did make a partial grid and include some blocks of paper but for the most part I didn't follow the sketch but instead let it "inspire me".

I had a lot of fun w/ the kraft heart embellies!  I bought them out of the dollar bin at Target.  They are self-adhesive and also come w/ a lot of other shapes in the package.  All I did was stick them on my page and outline them w/ my zig and done!!! Not bad for $1!

The next layout is for "Scrap It With a Song"
The song inspiration this week is "Let It Rain" by Amanda Marshall.
Usually I like to use the song title as my layout title or at least somewhere in the journaling, but since I didn't have any "rain" pictures to scrap, I just used a line from the song for my title:

"It Isn't Easy 2 Be Kind"
Journaling: ("Snapshots" embellie): "Ivanna and Panini BFFs - Not! Nov 13, 2012"
(Under the right pic): "Ivanna and Panini just can't seem to get along! IDK if it's because of the
age difference or because of they are of different species or both!"

As soon as I read that line I thought of my 2 fur babies who just can't seem to be nice to each other!  And these pics went perfectly w/ the theme.  Look at them pretending not to know the other exists! LOL! Love them so much!

I used some washi tape on this, a product I love but always seem to forget to use! At first I thought it would look awkward since the tape was dark compared to the soft colors on the rest of the layout, but in the end I think it added a nice "pop"of contrast!

Okay, it's your turn!!
Please top by either, or both, of the blogs and share w/ us your creations as inspired by this weeks challenge!

05/14/13 - SIT Sketch #110

Hello there!
Long time no see...errr...blog!
Once again I am late for the party!
Not good!
Well they say "better late than never" so w/ that in mind I am here to share the latest sketch over at "Sketches in Thyme":

Sketch # 110:

And my interpretation of it:

"Pucker Up"
Journaling: "Spring Break '13. Madi at the M&M store in Vegas"

The green M&M is my daughter's favorite M&M character so when we saw this cute doll of her making a kissy face I of course had to take a picture of my daughter imitating her! I think she did a really good job! LOL!

As you can see, this time I stayed true to the original sketch.
I added a few minor modifications, but for the most part the sketch worked for me as is!

Please stop by SIT and show us how it works for you!
Link up by May 31st for your chance to be a guest Maven  in July!!

04/18/13 - SIT SKetch #109 Part 1

Good Thursday Morning Friends!

Stopping in to share the latest sketch challenge over at "Sketches In Thyme".

Here is the 2-page sketch that we are (hopefully) inspiring w/ this week:

Sketch #109

My interpretation:

"11"

*all papers are from Nikki Sivils' "It's Your Day" Collection*

I wound using the middle of the sketch as my inspiration; that's a first for me.
Usually w/ 2 page sketches I pick one side or the other but in this case my eye was drawn to the middle elements.
Also, I took a lot of pictures of this event, however, I choose to pic only 4 pictures I thought really captured the story.  This is not something I usually do, as I can never seem to narrow down my pics into my absolute favs because usually they are ALL my faves, LOL! But there is definitely more freedom and room to move around when you don't have to worry about fitting every picture on the page!  I will definitely be doing more of this in the future.
BTW - just in case you're wondering, I do have a printed copy of every picture I took, I just didn't use them on my layout.

You have until the close of the month, on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, to link up your takes on this sketch and/or any of the other April sketches.  Your entry(ies) will put you in the running to be named one of our Top 3 and have the opportunity to guest design with us during the month of June!

Have fun, and good luck!!!

03/07/13 - SIT #104 & SIWAS

Hi all!
I recently noticed that my DT blog posts for "Sketches in Thyme" and "Scrap It With A Song" are always on the same day.

As is the case w/ today...
So this means I am plugging 2 blogs in one post; a two-for-one kinda deal.

First up is "Sketches In Thyme".
Here is the new sketch for this week:

 "Sketch #104"

And my creation:

"Panini Gram"
Journaling: Panini is a frequent subject of my Instagram pictures. These are
a few of my favorite ones.

When I saw the sketch I immediately thought it would be perfect to scrap a group of random pictures that I had on Instgram of my daughter's kitty! However, I didn't realize how much room the pics would take up! I'm not upset though because the pics are super cute, but it did throw off the original design of the sketch. I was a bit disappointed that the giant circle was covered up so much so I added a little circle at the bottom to help remedy that a bit.  I wanted to use girly colors since Panini is a girl kitty but I didn't want to overwhelm the neutral color scheme of the pics. I found these muted red, pink, and tan papers in a 12x12 "Fall Stack" pad of papers that I have had in my stack for YEARS!! They are girly but not TOO girly! I have never had a use for them before but I like the way they look here!
I am thinking I may go back and write the dates of each of the pics on the back of the layout just so I have them for future reference.
My daughter loved my layout except for the "I love my kitty!" sticker... She thought the sticker was cute but she pointed out that Panini is not my kitty; Panini is hers.  So I told her, "I'm sorry but they didn't have a 'I love my daughter's kitty' sticker". She then told me to make sure I let everybody know that Panini is her kitty...

*Attn readers: Panini is Madison's kitty*

Hope that is sufficient., LOL!

*
*

Okay onto my 2nd layout.
This one is for "Scrap It With A Song"

We are using songs w/ colors in them as the inspiration songs for March.
This week's song challenge is "Lady in Red" by Chris De Burgh.

Here is my layout:

"Lady In Red and Pink"
Journaling: "Lately I've been taking a lot of selfies.
Some actually come out pretty good!
But not as good as the ones teenagers take"

As you read in my journaling, I have been trying out "selfies", as in taking pictures of myself.  I have been realizing more and more that I need to have more of "me" in the family albums, If this means that I need to take the pics myself, I am okay w/ it. I'm still not proficient, but I'm working at it! I don't understand how teenagers always get such good shots of themselves! Now I just need to work on my "duck-face"! LOL! JK

I've also been trying to get better at misting. I used it on my last 2 layouts, in different ways, and now this one as well.  I find I'm better at misting w/ a mask. For this layout I made a mask by punching holes in a piece of cardstock. I'm pretty happy w/ the outcome and am proud that I'm branching out a bit!

Okay, okay, enough about me!
It's your turn to give one or both of the challenges a whirl!
As always w/ these challenges, you have until the end of the month to share your creations w/ us!
Hope to see you play along!

02/21/13 - SIT #103 & SIWAS

Hello!

I'm here today to share w/ you a layout created for the current challenge over at Scrap It With A Song. The song that we are inspiring you w/ this week is "We Belong" by Pat Benatar.

I used one of the lines from the song as the title to the layout I created w/ pics of my hubby and me!
Love this man!!

BTW - My husband hates to take pictures so these are VERY special to me!

"We Belong Together"
Journaling: "David and I have been through a lot in our
almost 13 years together but I have no doubt that
We Belong Together"

FYI - I used  sketch #16 from My Scraps and More to help inspire my layout.

Speaking of sketches...

Sketches In Thyme has a new sketch up today!
It's the 3rd sketch of the month so it's a 2-pager:

I almost attempted to create a 2 page layout but then I though....Nah!
My mind just can't seem to scrap that way...
Maybe someday, but for now here is my 1-page layout inspired by the 2nd page, flipped sideways:

"Fall Fun - Oak Glen 9/12/10"

Hope you like what you see and that it inspires you to create something to share w/ us!
Don't forget, if you do, and your layout is chosen as a fave on either blog, you will be asked to join us as a Guest Designer for a future month!

02/07/13 - SIT Sketch #101 AND SIWAS

Happy Thursday to you!

Today is double the fun!
I have 2 layouts going live on 2 different blogs!

First Layout:
It's time for a new sketch over at "Sketches In Thyme"!

As always, I will show you the sketch and then I will show you what I created from it!

SIT sketch

"Birthday Pie"

Journaling: Madison's Birthday landed on a Thursday, but we took her to Oak Glen
the following Sunday for some hot chocolate and a slice of their extra crumbly-crust
apple pie; her request. We also hoped to see snow but there wasn't any.
1/27/2013 (11 years old)

Supplies: SB.com kit - Cozy Winter, Zig Pen Black, Basic Grey 12x12 Chronicle, small circle punch

Although there wasn't any snow in the pics, I thought the snowflake accents would be a fun addition! The tiny blue "snowflakes" are actually the asterisks off of the same alpha sheet my title letters came off of.  I don't ever use my asterisks, or some of the other punctuation marks, from my alphas so I thought I might as well find a way to use these ones or else they will go to waste (again!).  I am thinking of trying this more often!
The scallops on the side were created by using a small circle punch to make circles out of white paper. I then cut them in half, outlined them w/ my black zig pen, and adhered them along the row of PP! It's a trick I use a lot and I always love how it comes out!

*

*
*

Second Layout:
Is for the "Scrap It With A Song" challenge; my first DT post on their blog!
The song choice for this week is Kelly Clarkson's "A Moment Like This".
I decided to use the song title as the title for a layout I created about 2 of my furbabies and how they don't normally like each other but wound up "cuddling" together one day!
"A Moment Like This (...doesn't normally happen!)"

Journaling: "Ivanna and Panini don't like each other. Ivanna doesn't like Panini because at 13 years old Ivanna gets irritated by Panini's kitten behavior. Ivanna growls and snaps at Panini when ever she tries to play w/ her; this makes Panini not like Ivanna. On this day, they wound up snuggled together by accident. Ivanna who is my "baby" likes to sit behind me on my chair while I am at the computer. Panini jumped into my chair not realizing Ivanna was already there. Perhaps they were both too tired to care because neither of them tried to go somewhere else to lie down"

Supplies: Nikki Sivils' Sugar Cookie, Echo Park Hello Summer sticker sheet,

This layout has lots of journaling as there is a whole story behind the two of them and the way they interact w/ each other. I struggled to figure out how to fit it all on my layout but then I can across a scrap of PP that I had stashed.  I had stashed the scrap because of the other side, it's grey w/ white polka dots, but found that the side w/ the lines was perfect for fitting all my journaling! Just goes to show you really shouldn't discard your scraps as you never know when you will have use for it!

Okay that's it from me!
Now it's your turn to stop by each blog and show us how you are inspired by the challenges!
Looking forward to seeing what you create!

01/17/13 -SIT Sketch #100

Good Morning!

Today I am sharing w/ you the latest sketch over at Sketches in Thyme.

Here is the sketch:

The 3rd sketch of the month is always a 2-pager, but as you already know, I don't do 2-pagers, so here is my take inspired by the Right-Hand Side of the sketch:

"Let's Swim"

I hate the water but my husband and daughter love it! When they get the opportunity to get into a pool they do, and have lots of fun too! This layout not only shows them having fun in the pool but having fun together! They have a strong bond and absolutely adore each other!

Even though I cut the original 2-page sketch in half I was still able to fit 8 pics on one layout.
How cool is that?!
For me that is very cool as I wanted to scrap all these pics of my husband and daughter but wasn't exactly sure how I was going to do it.

As you can tell I cheated a bit w/ this though...
I made the picture placement easier on myself by printing all the pics out as a grid and then cutting that grid out into one large pic.

Which just goes to show you that sketches don't always have to be followed exactly.  They are there to inspire and jumpstart your creativity.  As a matter of fact, the rule at SIT is that you can "flip, rotate, and adapt the sketch to work for you- as long as we can still see the sketch in there".
So that's what I did...made it work for me.
And I love the finished product!

Now it's your turn to show us how the sketch works for YOU!
Don't forget to stop by SIT and link up your project.
When you link up to any of our January sketches, you're entered to be a guest designer with us in March!!

01/03/13 - SIT Sketch #98

Hello there!
It's only the 3rd day of the New Year but so far so good!

Today I am sharing w/ you the latest sketch over at Sketches in Thyme.

Here is the sketch:

And here is my take:

"The Apple Tree and Us"
Journaling: "Oak Glen, CA - Dec 16, 2012.
David, Madison, Joseph and I spend the afternoon in Oak Glen. While there David saw
this apple tree and thought it would look good w/ the color effect function on our camera.
He was right!"

I realize the title isn't grammatically correct but I was trying to put the emphasize of it on the apple tree and added the "and us" after the fact because I realized it was silly to call it "The Apple Tree" when the large focus picture had Madison and me in it as well.

FYI: I used Nikki Sivils' "Audrey" collection for this layout.
Here is a link to it at the SB.com store if you're interested in learning more about it: Audrey.

And, as always with these posts, I now invite you to come show us what you can do w/ the sketch.
Stop by SIT and share your take with us - you have until January 31st to do so.
If you get chosen as a top 3 you'll be invited to join us as a Guest Designer in March!

12/20/12 - SIT Sketch #97

Hello All!
I haven't been around because I have been on vacation all week.Yay!
And when I am home I really don't blog much.
I am trying to get ready for Christmas as I am way behind this year!!

I stopped by today to share w/ you this week's sketch over at  Sketches in Thyme.
Here it is:

And here is what I did w/ it:

"The Taste of Christmas"
Journaling: "I don't really care much for Christmas as a holiday but I love the yummy treats it brings! 12/12"
As you know I don't do 2-pagers!
But the sketch still gave me inspiration.

Interesting tidbit: the letters in my "Christmas" were almost all created from different letters/numbers because I had ran out of what I needed.  The "C" was a "0" the "r" was a "h the 2 "S"s were "8"s the "t" was an "l" and the "a" was a "q".
I hate throwing away letters but most of the time I am stuck w/ letters I don't need.  This time I made it work for me!

Thanks for stopping by...
Now don't forget to stop by SIT and show us what you can do!

12/13/12 - SIT Sketch #96

Hey there! Ho there!

Thanks for stopping by.
Today I'm sharing with you the newest sketch up at "Sketches in Thyme".
We have 3 sketches a month:
 > sketch 1 is "interpreted" by Team A
 > sketch 2 is "interpreted" by Team B
 > sketch 3 is "interpreted" by both teams

I am on Team A and as this is the second sketch of the month I'm technically not assigned to it, but it just happened to be the perfect sketch for a pic I wanted to scrap. Love when that happens!

Here is the sketch:

And here is my take:

"Soft Kitty..."

How many of you are "The Big Bang Theory" fans?
Well, those of you who are will recognize the "journaling" underneath the pic. It's the lyrics to the "Soft Kitty" song Sheldon likes to have sung to him when he is sick. I love the show and the song is cute! I'd seen the images, such as the one I used with the lyrics and kitty pic, on the internet before so when it came to scrapping another cute pic of our kitty I thought it the perfect "embellie"! I googled "soft kitty lyrics" and choose "images" and a plethora of options came up. I chose my favorite and printed it on cardstock and then cut it out and wha-lah, the perfect accent for my page! (And doesn't that kitty look a lot like mine?!)

I love the internet! For a scrapper it opens up a whole new world of product. If you can't find an image for your project in a store...you can usually find it online. This is the 3rd time I've tried this technique and I'm always happy with the end result!

As you can see other than the pic and my homemade embellie I only added a few bits and pieces to the layout to finish it off. Sometimes you don't need much to make a cute layout!

Oh, also, I used the scraps from my last SIT sketch layout on this layout. The  large teal strip of paper is a leftover from the same 12x12 paper I used on the last layout and the strips of hexagon patterned paper going across the middle is the flip side of the scraps I had leftover from another 12x12 paper I used on my last layout. That is the fastest I have ever used my scraps!!

Now it's your turn!
Come visit SIT and show us what you can do!

12/06/12 - SIT Sketch # 95

It's Thursday!
That means it's time for another Sketches In Thyme sketch!
Whoot, whoot!

Here is what we have for you this week:

And here is my example:
"Stars"

I used a kit I bought over at SB.com that I just couldn't resist, especially because they were having a sale and I had an additional percentage off coupon!
Here is the link to the kit I bought if you want to know more about what products I used:
(I'm awful at listing products!)

So yeah, I took a break from using old product...just a little break.
I'll get back to using my stash again soon.
That will be a neverending goal.
(Oh! The pink piece going through the middle of the layout is old...very old! I got it from my scrap box. Also the gem I used is old...so at least that's something!)

Okay it's your turn to show us what you can do w/ the sketch.
Use old or new product...
Paper or digital...
Layout or card (or if you can make it work, another project)...
Whatever you want!
But whatever you do make sure you link it to the SIT blog: SIT (#95)

If you are chosen as one of the "Top 3" you win a Guest Designer spot on our blog.  Also up for grabs is the following yummy prize:

So what are you waiting for?!

11/23/12 - SIT Sketch #94

Happy After Thanksgiving Day!

Hope yours was memorable...
  in a good way! :0)

Just stopping in to let you know that Sketches in Thyme is up w/ a new sketch today.
Here is the sketch:

And here is my take on it:
"These Two"

As you can see I did a one pager.
I do not like scrapping 2 pagers.
In fact I think I have only completed one 2 pager in the over 14 years that I have been scrapping!
I think it has to do w/ my ADD.
I get bored easily so after completing 1 page, I really don't want to try to scrap another coordinating page... I need it to be completly different, which doesn't work w/ 2 pagers.
Also I turned the sketch on its side.
That's me, always have to be a rebel...LOL!

A little bit about the layout:
I bought the scalloped circle paper because I loved how pretty it looked on other people's layouts in the Scrapbook.com gallery.  But once I got it, I could't get it to work for me.  The white space of it was just too much! I am a total "Negative Space" kinda girl, but I think the fact that it was 'white' negative space threw me off! I am not very good at scrapping on a white BG!
(Add that to the list of things I'm "not good at").
I had the paper in my stash for a while and I was afraid it would become one of those items that gets lost in the stash for years! Which would have been a real shame, because I said, it looked great on other layouts.
So since the sketch called for a giant circle and it is a giant circle I challenged myself to use it.
A challenge w/in a challenge I guess you could say.
Finally when I was so frustrated that I was about to put it away and work on another layout, I had the idea to cut the circle in half and layer the two halves on top of each other in order to make the white space less 'white'.
Once I did that the rest of the layout basically came together in no time!

So how 'bout you?
Do you think you could create something fabulous using the sketch?
I bet you can!
And if you do and share it w/ us you just may win a prize!
Stop by the SIT blog: Sketch #94
and link your project for this sketch, or any other November sketch, by November 30th for a chance to win this 6x6 pad of Harvest Paper:
Good luck!

03/27/23 Planning with Urban Journal Season Ink

My printer was having issues and I fixed it but during the interim I was not scrapping and lost my mojo ::le sigh:: But I've still been ...
