06/22/20 - Doreen Out!

Just FYI -
I'm closing down my blog.

I just don't find it enjoyable anymore
If anything it's just more work.
I much prefer to post on Instagram and Scrapbook.com.

One of the only reasons I kept this open is for Design Team applications.
But since a lot of Design Teams also require Facebook, and I don't have one, there's really no purpose for this account anymore, especially since it doesn't make me happy.

If you would like to keep in touch w/ me you can e-mail me at VasquezDoreen43(at)Yahoo(dot)com.

06/01/20 - "Use Your Stuff Challenge" #399

Over at the "Use Your Stuff" Blog we are challenging to create a Father's Day or Masculine Themed project.

This is what I came up with
A 2-page Traveler's Notebook Spread:

A photo of my husband and our daughter on her 14th Birthday in 2016.

I didn't include that info on this spread because I already made a larger spread about it, w/ a photo that includes me (so all 3 of us).

This spread is just them...one of my favorite photos of them.
Love the happiness that radiates from the photo!
::Mega Heart Eyes::

I love how simple this page is but how it still radiates fun!

I used 1 PP on this; the polka dot strip is the backside of the main BG paper.
Everything else is embellishments.
I also used 4 stamps, 3 of which are from Kelly Purkey.
Other items are from Amy Tangerine for American Crafts, Elle's Studio, Crate Paper, Simple Stories and The Reset Girl

You have 2 weeks to play along w/ the challenge; hope to see you there!

05/23/20 - "Rain, Rain Go Away..."

Hi, all!
Here is a 12x12 Traditional Paper layout I created today:

"Rain, Rain Go Away (Hamlet Needs to Pee!)"

Journaling:
"Rain, rain go away Hamlet needs to pee! Today it rained all day...hard! When I tried to let Hamlet out in the morning to go potty, he refused. He held it until 7:09 PM, wow! When he came in he was covered in rain drops and he left cute wet hoof prints on the mat in our kitchen.
Date: 28 Nov 2019"

I included a funny, theme appropriate, meme I found on Instagram.

This was created primarily for the "Scrap Lift The Person Before You" challenge. I scrap lifted this layout:

EMS - Giraffe Snapshot

And I want to point out that the BG paper, photo mat paper, and the journaling card are hella old!
#StashBusting

TFSB!

05/18/20 - "Use Your Stuff Challenge" #398

The current challenge over at "Use Your Stuff" is Patterned Paper.
As you may know I have been really into Pocket Pages lately, and though I do create Traditional Pages as well, I create way more Pocket Pages!
In doing so I am using a good amount of my Pocket Page Cards stash, which was a huge goal of mine this year, but this means I've been neglecting my Patterned Paper stash... and I have plenty of that as well!
So I decided, for this challenge to create Pocket Cards out of my Patterned Paper. I also used Traditional Pocket Page cards, so this layout is the best of both worlds!

"Hello, Early Summer"
Journaling: "We had to get Fat Boy a bigger pool because he outgrew his old one"

You can see Hamlet's old pool behind the new one; quite a difference!
The new pool is wider but also taller so we had to cut the side to allow for easier entry.
Even w/ this, Hamlet's short little legs still struggle to climb in, LOL
In these photos he's bobbing for ice cubes...

Okay back to the design details...
Here's the papers I used:

They, and the matching stickers, have been in my stash for at least 2 years (I think more though).

Not only did I use the (blue side of) the bottom paper for a couple of the pockets, but I also cut half-circles out of it to use as embellishments to add a bit more balance to the layout... plus I was trying to use it up!

So there you have it, you don't have to use Patterned Papers for just Traditional layouts, just like you don't have to use Pocket Page Cards for just Pocket Pages.
I just love how versatile scrapbooking can be!

05/12/20 - Introvert COVID Edition

Hi everyone,
How is it going in your part of the world?!

Things are still well here.
They recently lifted the Mandatory Mask requirement in my County, so I'm happy about that, though my workplace still requires it (bummer!).

Anyway. today I am sharing a layout I created for a blog challenge.
It's been a while since I've completed a challenge for a blog, other than the one I'm on the Design Team for.

I played along w/ the current challenge over at the "More Than Words" blog.
Their Main Challenges are based on a word inspiration and a creative challenge.

This is the current challenge criteria:
Word Inspiration - Funny
Creative Challenge - Stripes

Pretty sure, w/ my layout, I got both covered!
A 2-page spread in my BOM (Book of Me)

"Introvert COVID Edition"

Journaling: "That moment when...quarantine has you missing your friends, but you're still an introvert at heart."
LOL

As you all know I am an introvert... and this comic I came across on Instagram really spoke to me...
cuz seriously, it is me!
I mean, if I had friends, bahahahahaha!

Fun Fact, the alpha stamps I used are the first set of (foam) stamps I ever bought, ever, when I started scrapbooking over 22 years ago!

05/09/20 - "2 Cute Jerks" and "Fig Hunter"

Today I'm sharing w/ you a couple of recently completed Pet Layouts.

The First Layout -
12x12 Traditional Paper layout:

Journaling:
Left -
"Our neighbor's cat, Jones. He sleeps on our porch all the time but won't let me pet him. #CatsAreJerks"

Right-
"Panini and Jones on our porch. I think this is the closest they'll ever get to being friends! #CatsAreJerks x 2"

I love to jokingly say "cats are jerks" so that's how I came up w/ the title.
My goal for this page was to use up some old, actually more like ancient, Project Life cards.
I used 2 of them, the tan and yellow pieces, as one of the layers behind my photos.
Everything else on here is also stash items, except the BG. A few other items fall into the "ancient" category also.

.
.

The Second Layout -
Is also a 12x12 Traditional Paper layout and is the only layout I completed on iNSD (inter-National Scrapbooking Day)

Journaling:
"Hamlet loves our neighbors' fig tree! Actually, more specifically, the figs that fall from that tree. What Hamlet doesn't know is, before I let him outside, I pick up approximately 90% of those figs. My Fat Boy DOES NOT need any extra calories, nor the sugar!
November 24th, 2019"

This layout was also part of a challenge over at SB.com
The challenge was to select the oldest layout in our gallery, where we used stamps, and use it to inspire our new layout.
See the original layout below, which I created on July 3rd 2006; back in the day when stamps were wooden.
I used the same stamps on my new layout.
The stamps are the small wooden alpha sets you used to be able to find in the Walmart craft section...remember those?

Completing the new layout I reminded me how hard it was to line up wooden stamps, but I did have fun trying!
I may break them out again, I mean since I still have them!

"Silly" (created in 2006)

BTW - this is Madison wearing her (clean) underwear on her head back when she was 3.
She's always been a character.... wonder where she gets that from, LOL
Actually it's both me and my husband.
Poor girl had no chance! ::wink::

The new layout is made of all stash items (except the enamel dots).
I'm really making a dent this year and couldn't be happier about it!

05/04/20 - "Use Your Stuff Challenge" #397

Ready for a new "Use Your Stuff" Challenge?
For the next 2 weeks our challenge to you is to use flowers and/or butterflies on your project.

When it comes to scrapbooking I am not a flower girl.
As a matter of fact I'm not really a flower girl IRL either, unless they are growing in my garden. Come to think of it, I'm also not much of a butterfly girl unless, again, they're in my garden.
So it was tough trying to decide which I would use for the challenge until I came across this Simple Stories PP that I have had in my stash for a few years now.

W/ it, I created this 12x12 Traditional Paper layout:

"Before Work Cuddles"

Me and Hamlet cuddling on the floor.
A morning ritual before I head out for work... which makes it very difficult to leave!
And yes, it's a "selfie".

8x10 photo ordered by mobile app from Walgreens

The emoji is also from Simple Stories
The "Sweet Moments" is from American Crafts
All the alphas are from Studio Calico

05/02/20 - Food and Laughs

Today is Inter-National Scrapbook Day!
I hope to get some scrapping in since I'm actually home and have nothing otherwise planned (wait, isn't that everyone right now?! LOL)

But for right now, let me share w/ you my latest:

A one-page, 12x12 Traditional Paper layout

Includes
- an 8 and 1/2 x 11 handout from the event, and
- a 4x4 photo of our dinner after

The photo is in a 4x4 Simple Stories flip pocket which is stuck to the outside of the 12x12 page protector so that you can flip it up to read the hidden journaling and the covered part of the handout.
Notice the tab w/ the Kellie Stamps "flip this" stamp stamped on it to advise you of the hidden journaling:

"Three Stooges Festival 2019" (1 of 2)

"Three Stooges Festival 2019" (2 of 2)

Hidden Journaling: "After enjoying the 22nd Annual Three Stooges Movie Festival, we feasted!
Our new tradition started in 2018:
The Three Stooges Festival followed by a delicious dinner of Middle Eastern food at The Carousel restaurant."

This was only the 2nd year we did this but it is something we look forward to.
My husband mostly for the Three Stooges, me mostly for the food, bahahaha!

Speaking of food...
Here is a page I recently created for my (6x8) BOM:

Totally me, LOL
And "yes" that is food washi tape, bought at Target
I used scraps from my stash for the papers
The "food" stamps are all from Citrus Twist
The utensils stamp is from Elle's Studio
The filmstrip washi, from Queen & Company, is one of my faves. Unfortunately they don't sell it anymore. I'm going to be sad when the roll is finished.

04/29/20 - 2019 Project Life Week 45 + Binge Watched

Continuing my Project Life 2019; here is Week 45.
I'm really enjoying this stroll down Memory Lane; it's reviving my love for Project life, and Pocket Pages in general!

12x12 Traditional Pocket page.

During Week 45:
- We packed up Halloween and officially said "goodbye" to October
- Lunched at one of our favorite places to eat: Plant Power a delicious Vegan fast food restaurant
- I ordered a Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks, though the Christmas Cups had already been released
- Went out for dinner and drinks w/ our friends to one of our favorite spots and I ordered my usual (hence the journaling)
- Took a photo of Hamlet peeing for my insta-stories, LOL
.
.
.
.

I'm also sharing a 6x8 Pocket Page Insert I created for Project Life 2020:

I wanted to document a couple of favorite shows I binged watched this year:
"Barry" is on HBO (Seasons 1-2) and "The Good Place" is on Netflix (Seasons 1-3)
I'll probably use the flipside for more shows.

The layout is fairly simple, which is the style I'm leaning towards right now.

Maybe once or twice, right?

- Panini being her typical beautiful self
- Spotty (RIP) sleeping in a funny position
- "World Vegan Day"
- A funny "awkward moment" meme that I can relate to

04/20/20 - "Use Your Stuff Challenge" #396

Over at the Use Your Stuff blog there is a Mood Board challenge:

To me, the Mood Board has an Easter-y vibe so that's what inspired my take on the challenge:

12x12 Traditional Paper Layout

"Easter 2020"

Journaling:
"Easter 2020: My co-workers and I were sending funny "Easter 2020" memes; these are a few of my favorites!"

I'll say it again, my 2020 Project Life Album is going to be interesting, LOL

FUN FACT: that Disney BG paper is at least 20 years old! I bought it back when I first started scrapping. It's from Paper Pizazz... IDK if they are even in business any more!
The green PP is probably nearly as old!

04/18/20 - COVID Style

12x12 Traditional Pocket Page layout.

I LOVE this layout!
It came out exactly how I envisioned it... you know that can be a rarity!

Documenting the masks my husband made me.
These had all been posted on Instagram, which explains the journaling style.

"COVID Style Basics"

Journaling:
1) Like my mask? Pretty cute, huh? My husband made it; he's so handy! Face masks are now mandatory in the County I live in, the County I work, and my workplace. The choice of pattern was not conscious... it was just a cheap pattern for which to practice his skills. He's going to make me something cuter. But for now, 'Arrrr, me mateys!' LOL"

2) "Because I have small ears the elastic on my mask was hurting me. David fixed the problem; much better!"

3)"This little piggy went to the market"...
And THESE little piggies are keeping me stay safe from the Corona Virus! Also made by my hubby."

4)"IDK guys, what do you think? Too much? LOL
Sorry about all the mask spam, but I finally figured out I make a pretty damn great model...
as long as most of my face is covered, bahaha!
Okay, this is the last one; promise!"

No doubt, my 2020 album is going to be interesting to look through!

04/14/20 - HBD Hamlet

On March 1st (2020), National Pig Day, Hamlet turned 5 years old!
Here's the layout to commemorate the event!

12x12 Traditional Paper

"Happy 5th, Hamlet!"

Journaling:
"Happy National Pig Day and 5th Birthday to our Hamlet! At 5 yrs old, pigs are considered fully grown. Awww no more baby! He definitely wasn't sad about it cuz...cake! Red Velvet, his mama's choice. He licked the plate clean!"

(remember, I'm not his mama...my daughter is. I would NEVER choose red velvet, LOL)

I'm really bad w/ dates so I'm so glad that Hamlet was coincidentally born on National Pig Day...both events help me remember the other!

I used a lot of stamps on here: 5 total
4 of them are Birthday Stamps from Kellie Stamps:
 - Birthday Boy
 - You're How Old?!
 - the 2 balloons on the "On This Day" Card (upper right)
 - Oh Yeah, Cake Time

04/07/20 - "Use Your Stuff Challenge" #395

The current challenge at "Use Your Stuff" is Easter.

Since both my kids are grown, we don't celebrate Easter anymore,  but this (6x12) Carrot Cake pocket page layout is pretty Easter-y...especially with the cute googly-eyed bunny sticker:

This is my intro page for March (I'm skipping February for now).
You may think that it's weird that the highlight of March was carrot cake... and though it was pretty darn delicious, the highlight was more the fact that David was finally able to find eggs in the store!
With this whole Corona Virus, hoarder mentality so many people have, it's been difficult to find the staples: milk, bread, eggs, TOILET PAPER!
Luckily we already had all those things, except the eggs. David was upset because he figured if he is stuck at home, he should spend his free time doing one of his favorite hobbies: baking!
But he couldn't do that w/out all the supplies... so there you have it, the reason why a carrot cake was a "Highlight From This Month"!

The March cork piece is from Studio Calico
The "homemade" stamp, circle die-cuts, and 3x4 Pocket Cards are from Elle's Studio
The "(eat your veggies)" stamp is from Kelly Purkey

04/04/20 - My Project Life Plans for 2020

I'm doing Project Life a little differently this year; instead of doing it "weekly" I'm trying "monthly".
I'm not sure if it will work or if I'll like it but after 2 years of doing it "weekly" I decided to change it up.

More specifically I'm documenting Project Life like this:
- Monthly Intro Page w/ a few random photos from the month
- 12x12 Traditional pages of my favorite photos
- The rest of the month's photos will go into pocket page layouts, not necessarily in date order.

To give you a better idea what I'm talking about I'm going to show you all of January.
But first let me show you the new pages I finished:

1) January Intro Page + Flipside

- My New Years Resolution: Pet more Dogs
-A photo of a miniature colored pencil drawing of my Spotty that an IG friend drew for me
-I had to buy a new keyboard and I bought one from Amazon, but didn't realize it didn't have a separate number pad (just the numbers across the top), oops!
- My 7 year Starbucks Gold Star Anniversary
- Tried the new Twix Cookies & Creme

2) January Leftover photos Front

- My OLW is "Optimism"
- Vegan Tacos from my work's Farmer's Market
- A Vegan Post I felt compelled to save
- Toasted Coconut Cheerios
- $6 Press on Nails... that lasted a month (score!)

3) January Leftover photos Back

- First Lazy Dog visit of the year
- A funny Corona Virus / Introvert Meme
- First visit to a new Donut place
- Trying a new Starbucks drink
- Kobe and Gigi Bryant die (RIP)
- The rabbit I see every time I go to Del Taco

This page includes a Flip Pocket for journaling about the donut:

The rest of January includes these already shared layouts:

So that's January.
Again IDK if I will like this method of Project Life but it is something a bit different and I like that it allows me to focus first on 12x12 layouts and then still play w/ pocket pages.

FYI - that cork board "January" has been in my stash for about 3 years...It's from Studio Calico.
I plan on using all the ones I have (January - September) in my album this year
If you know anyone who has October - December, and they wouldn't mind parting with them, steer them my way!
TY

04/01/20 - Furbabies

Just a few pet layouts for your viewing pleasure.

All 12x12 traditional paper layouts:

"Pretty Kitty"
Journaling: "A rare moment when Panini wanted to cuddle"

I'm not a flower person but wanted to use that scalloped piece of PP that has been in my stash forever so...boom, there it is! LOL

"Dinner Interrupted"
Journaling: "Seriously guys, can't you just let me eat my dinner in peace?! Hamlet is in his Mommy's room or else he'd be right there w/ them!"

Panini and Spotty (RIP) trying to get some of my dinner.

"Isn't She Lovely"
Journaling: "My babies w/ my baby. Random photos w/ Ivanna"

Just some random photos of my malti-poo, Ivanna (RIP), with my kids.
Ivanna died nearly 4 years ago.

A scrap lift of this layout:

All my layouts have lots of old stash mixed in w/ a bit of newish stash.
I'm having fun creating w/ my old stuff!

03/16/20 - "Use Your Stuff Challenge" #394

Hiya!

This week's challenge at "Use Your Stuff" = Spring

I decided to scrap a photo that is a sure sign, to me, that Spring is here:

Journaling: "One of the signs of Spring? Sees releases these babies! My favorite flavors, after rootbeer."

These are Strawberries and Cream and Oranges and Cream lollipops and I love them!
The only other flavor of Sees lollipop I like better is the Root Beer which, BTW, is also Seasonal.

*Note: yes there is tape on my photo.
I was having some issues w/ my page and by the time I had completed it, the photo was coming up a bit but I didn't want to deal w/ the mess of glue so I just stuck rows of tape across it.
I may regret that some day, but not soon enough that it caused me to decide against it.

03/12/20 - Club 80s

Still trying to blog even when I don't "feel" it...
I'm still very much "feeling" Scrapbooking, just not blogging.

Here's a page I recently created:

"Club 80s"
12x12 Traditional

Journaling:
"Our first big outing of 2020 was to Club 80s for Dawn's Birthday. They also had a Linkin Park Tribute band! So Cool!"

BG paper is called "Tech Bubbles" and is from Reminisce:
Reminisce - Tech Bubble Collection - 12 x 12 Double Sided Paper - Glow Party

The 80s stickers are from Ella and Viv:

I think they made a perfect combo for this page!

I also used a couple of stickers from the Carte Bella "Circus" Collection and a Pocket Page Card from my stash.
Everything on this layout is a fairly recent purchase, so I had to throw that card in for good measure ::wink::

03/04/20 - "On This Day..." and Pumpkins

Hi,
Just wanted to drop off a couple of layouts really quick-like!

"Seriously Crappy Timing, Shutterfly"

12x12 Traditional Paper Layout

Cute photo, huh?
Well, this photo was sent to me, from Shutterfly via e-mail, 3 days after Spotty (my black dog) died!
Ugh, REALLY?!
Hence the title.
My other dog, Ivanna, passed approximately 3 years ago.

Journaling: "One of the photos from '4 years ago today' includes this one of me sleeping w/ both of my (now) deceased dogs. Really?! TBH, I actually had a small chuckle about the photo cuz, I mean, really, what are the odds?!"

I chose the "I love this photo" die cut because, despite the timing, I really do! And I chose the "going w/ the flow" sticker because that's what I decided to do, just go w/ seeing it and still loving it...despite the crappy timing!

For the following challenges:
- Scrap W/ Your Scraps (the heart PP pieces )
- Stickers (14)
- Scrap Your Pet
- Pocket Page Card
- Hoarders  (Almost everything, minus 3 items)

6x8 Photo ordered from the Project Life App
Products: Amy Tangerine for American Crafts, Echo Park, Simple Stories, Elle's Studio and Studio Calico

"Pumpkins For Hamlet"
12x12 Traditional Paper Layout

Journaling:
"The day after Halloween means pumpkins for Hamlet"

For the following challenges:
- Use Your Stamps (4)
- Stickers (17)
- Hoarders (that BG paper is about 18 yrs old)
- Scrap Your Pet
- Foodie
- Scrap w/ Your Scraps (the black photo mat)
- In the Corner
- 1 Piece of PP

Other products Elle's Studio, Kelly Purkey, and Studio Calico

Photo grid created on my cell phone w/ the Photo Grid app then printed on my HP Envy home printer on a piece of 5x7 HP photo paper

Okay, that's all for now.
TTYL!

02/24/20 - "Curse You, Early Morning!"

A 2 page spread in my 6x8, BOM (Book of Me).

It's been a while since I worked in this book and I didnt realize just how much I missed it!
I need to do it more often.

Created for the Negative Space challenge at Scrapbook.com I included an interactive feature to hide my journaling. Not that it needed to be hidden, I just wanted to try something fun!

Topic:
(One of) my favorite mug(s)
Also how I really feel about Early Mornings
LOL

Journaling:

"Still (one of) my favorite mugs EVER
Though truthfully, I've been noticing, I really don't mind getting up early; it just depends on the reason.
Getting up early to go to work? Ugh no!
Getting up early to go somewhere, even somewhere fun? Still no (but not "ugh")!
Getting up early to hang around the house, taking care of household necessities, and/or having quiet time to work on projects? Yes!
Basically if it involves pants and leaving the house, I'm not okay with getting up early to do it!"

12/18/20 - "Use Your Stuff Challenge" #392

Hi, it's me again!
This is starting to become a habit!

Today I'm sharing a 12x12 Traditional Paper Layout

The BG paper choice was partly inspired by the current challenge over at the "Use Your Stuff" blog: circles!
This challenge was right up my alley; you all know how much I love my circles!
If not let me 'splain:

Circles are my favorite shape in general and favorite shape for scrapbooking.
I always like to either add a circle (or polka dot) PP, circle photo mat(s), or circle embellishment(s).
In fact it's my go-to so often I actually have to fight myself NOT to use them!

"Halloween Night  - Be A Clown"

On my layout I used a colorful circle PP for the BG and a medium-sized circle photo mat to help highlight my bottom photo. I also used a small circle punch to punch out a clown face from a clown PP.

Journaling:
"Funny story:
I caused a lot of confusion when I posted the top 2 photos on my IG Stories. People were commenting that I fooled them; that they thought the 2 clowns were dummies until the 2nd one sat up! I had to tell them that they ARE Dummies! In fact ALL of them are dummies, except my daughter. These are all the dummies and animatronics that we set up at our house for the trick-or-treaters."

In the interest of full disclosure, I wanted to share that this was one of those layouts that took for-ever to create! It gave me so much trouble I almost trashed it! But it wound out working out in the end.

Moral of the story:
Dont give up! ::fist in the air::

- BG paper is Vicki Boutin for American Crafts: from the Wildflower and Honey Collection
- Circus items are Pebbles and Carta Bella
- Halloween Stickers are Photo Play Paper
Also used an Elle's Studio puffy phrase sticker and a couple of Elle's Studio diecuts

02/15/20 - Project Life Weeks 40, 42, and 43

Project Life
Weeks 40, 42, and 43

I'm currently skipping Week 41 because that is the week we went to Portland and Seattle so I'm not quite sure what I'm doing w/ that week.
I'm thinking a pocket page: 1 side my favorite photos from Portland, the other side my favorite photos from Seattle.
The problem is, narrowing down my faves!

Click (or Tap) each image to enlarge

Week 40 -

12x12 Traditional Layout
I don't always use Pocket Pages when creating a Project Life Page.

This is week =
- My discovery of the comfty-ness of Old Navy leggings
- Started reading "What if it's Us"
- A blurry photo of my Spotty (that I wasn't going to use but decided to use due to the circumstances RIP Spotty 12/17/19)
- Just a little (Pumpkin Spice) kiss
- Stater Brothers expands their Vegetarian/Vegan section from 1 to 2!

ETA - after uploading I realized this layout included the first week of October so I went back and added my Elle's Studio "OCT" wood veneer, which fit in flawlessly with my original design:

Week 42 -
12x12 Traditional Pocket Page Layout

- Funny Meme from Mini-Pig.com
